As part of the plan for getting the Tatti Ducati ST4 back on the road it will need a good service - It used to go up to Riders in Bridgewater, but I'm not too keen on taking it that far before it's had a bit of a "shakedown". Has anybody got any recommendations for getting a Ducati serviced somewhere near to Plymouth ? Has anyone got any experience of using GT's ?
I can really recommend a guy called John Tremlett at JR Tremletts in Ashburton. He's not a Ducati specialist but he is a really honest guy who knows his stuff. His main business is Off-road stuff but he does all sorts. I wasn't sure where to take my 999S when I moved to Devon last year, but John has had it for a few repairs and a big service with Belts and everything else. Every time he has done a cracking job at a good price. If you're not worried about what the stamp is in the service book it might be worth giving John a call.
Cheers ! If you'd ever seen the state of the ST4 you'd understand why a dealer stamp in the book isn't a priority... Any chance you could PM me his number ?
Louigi Moto , Bristol . May be a bit of distance , but in my opinion , you won't get better service . Give Rich a ring , i'm sure he'll sort you out . Depending on how busy he is , he may even pick u're bike up . Tel 01761453366 www.louigimoto.co.uk
@ DoW - Bristol is twice as far away as Bridgewater, so I'll probably give that one a miss thanks... @ CJ - Cheers...
I've always used a chap called Rob Blake, just outside Liskeard. Like ur chap in Ashburton, he's more off road but he certainly knows his stuff.
have heard of rob in my trail riding circles, ment to be good, but always used flashmans for my dirt bikes as they are on our doorstep, but colin did go a funny colour when I mentioned ducati belt change ; ) but said he knows a man who can, prob = Rob Blake Motorcycles, Upton Cross, Liskeard, PL14 5BB, 01579 362690
Yes, it is... And whilst I appreciate the recommendation, I won't be riding 150 miles on a bike that has effectively been in storage for two years and needs a service... No offence...
Rob's been trailing for years ... has got some real good pics in his workshop from way back when. He's done the belts on both my SS and 748. First took my CBX550 to him for a service, felt like a brand new bike when I rode it away!! Have heard of Colin Flashman but never used him as Rob's on my doorstep. I must admit he's taking things easy a bit these day so not open all week.
Another one here that would recommend Tremletts in Ashburton. Top bloke and maintains a few Ducatis locally. He bought the spares stock when APS went in Newton Abbot years ago.
....to balance the advice....I can recommend GT's,hooray nobodies give them a mention here but I guess I'm biased having bought most of my bikes from them. Never can I say it's been cheap, infact I took my old Multi back to them for throttle body balancing on there advice as the bike was surging low down. As this is not covered by warranty it cost 1hour labour no parts= £60, reasonable I thought but when I looked at the invoice no adjustment had been made as the throttle bodies where only 1% out! 5mins work plus 10 mins road test!..ouch! First 600 mile service, oil/filter change and check is £200! ...including stamp in book! PS Devon and Cornwall Ducatisti's how about a ride out sometime?...Please join the S.West Group section on this forum then we can arrange something. Cheers vj Trematon Cornwall.
..Crikey your going back a bit APS I bought an R1 from them and a Yam scoot for my son Rossi rep I think or was it before his time (2003), can't think its late!! vj
Am I right in saying APS is what Motorcycle City became, just before they went tits-up ? In the industrial estate on the right, just after the race-course ? That's where the Tatti Ducati came from originally...
....your right JR....we used to have a great ride up from Plymouth, got to be 1996, I bought my R1 (Orange/red seat and white) from APS then they got bought out by Motorcycle city. I didn't buy a bike off them. Happy days.
They were the ones that talked me into having that bloody awful Meta alarm fitted - what a useless piece of shi-ite that was ! Then they refused to do anything about it when it imobilised the bike halfway through overtaking a lorry in the rain - right up to the point where the RAC legal department had to phone them up and tell them the score... Crap service all round. No wonder they went bust !
I have decent things to say about GT. One of their gents kindly spent ages prattling around with me and my DDA, even to the extent of loading it onto his computer and trying his stick in mine. (Conclusion - I'm an idiot with computers. No news there.) they're aren't as cheap as independent, of course they aren't. That's kind of expected though I'd say.
