Ducati specials

  1. This metal fabrication and design company in Staffordshire make "Specials". Have a liking for Ducatis too. They were featured in MCN recently. Bit closer to home than Radical Ducati.
    Worth a look.

  5. Just up the road from me as well. Click on the pic you want and the slideshow stops.

Shame you can't make the photos bigger mind. I believe the bikes will be featured in Performance Bikes mag very soon.

  6. What do he do? What do they charge? How long does it take? Do they just strip and bolt back together or make tanks and parts or paint or what?

Shame as the eBay thing looks well put together, although I guess if you're in the market you'd know about them?!

  7. Hello everybody,
I realise this thread is a bit old now but someone pointed me here.Perhaps I can answer some of your questions. My name is Paul Stead and I am the mechanic at Made in Metal motorcycles, based in Great Haywood, just south of Stafford.
I quite agree, the website is rubbish, been meaning to do something about it for a while now,but just been too busy with the bikes, and to be honest I know what id rather be doing. Most of the things we get up to are uploaded to facebook, just type our name in or google us and you should find plenty.
We build and work on all marques and types of motorcycles but we did bit of a run on Ducatis last year.SD01,02,03,04,05 and "il cafe mostro" 900.We do have a few more Ducati ideas that may be spawned this year, keep an eye out for them.
We have been featured in a 4 page MCN article a couple of months ago and have a 5 page article in this months (jan 2013) Performance bikes magazine (this article was actually written some time ago but speaks a lot of us,SD02 and the M900 build)
All these bikes are stripped to bare frame.Frame is modified front and rear to accept the one off bodywork, tanks are sourced and then modified for purpose. There are many one off handmade parts on these bikes and everything else is replaced or refurbed, powdercoated etc.
One of the most popular jobs we do are hand made aluminium seat units created from sheet, most of then going for customers cafe racer builds.
We are capable of manufacturing most parts you might need for a project or even carrying out the entire project to your spec including finding the donor bike.
Feel free to ask any questions,we love what we do here and are only too happy to talk bike and help you with your projects.
All the best and a Happy New year to you all.

  10. Hi Paul,

You may be interested to take a look at the Sport Classic section on this forum & then at the Sport Classic section on the Ducati.ms forum. There have been reported issues with standard Ducati tanks in some countries (mainly the US) distorting due to petrol with a higher ethanol content. Some owners have started buying aluminium tanks via an American firm, although the tanks are made in Italy. Might be an opening for you to do some business & help some people?

  11. Saw you work at the Stafford classic bike show Pail and in the flesh your work is really top notch. Do you do one off engineering too? I often need one offs doing, do you have cnc kit? Can you do bespoke exhausts for example? Would be good to know seeing as you are so close by...

  12. @ Rudolph Hart.I wasn't aware of this issue, from my experience many Ducati tanks fail to hold fuel for more than a few years before letting go anyhow, thanks for the heads up tho.those tanks and seat units look quite nice,id be keen to know who is making them in Italy.

  13. @ lordmoonpie.
Glad You liked what You saw at Stafford,we take a lot of pride in what we do here and the response at the shows have been quite amazing. One off parts are the mainstay of what we do.
Exhausts are no problem,Neil was in R+D at Motad for some time so is pretty well clued up on such matters. We have CNC equipment but at present not set up,but we have a couple of bike mad chaps locally (currently restoring old F1 cars and working on Lemans projects) who are quite happy to help out.We run quite an open workshop here and would only be too happy for you to visit and see what goes on over a coffee and a chinwag,no obligation whatsoever (gives us an excuse to down tools and talk bikes for a bit)
This invitation is open to anyone interested.

  17. Thanks Paul - when you get that CNC hooked up let me know :)
In the meantime, I've PM'd you about a small job I need help with. Cheers :)

  18. The company making these is Tecknorace (Tecknorace | Dalla passione la nostra esperienza) and they are being distributed through Motowheels in the US.
