  3. Yep, its CSS.

  4. Will there be rain?

  5. maybe, but bring your bike with wets on to reduce the risk.......

  7. Registration was shambolic at Silverstone last July because no-one explained the table set up and it didn't cope with the sudden arrival of all the people that were held in a queue at the entrance to the pits for no obvious reason. CSS took a fair bit of criticism for the grouping and there were far too many red flags when enthusiasm got the better of ability. Policing of the no diving and considerate overtaking was non existent and when there are 90 odd red Ducatis on track, you were hard pressed to identify the culprits. One unfortunate rider got air lifted to hospital after being spooked when overtaken on both sides by faster riders. Many had a good day and the weather was great. I wasn't fast enough for the intermediate group but I was too fast for most in the novice group but with nearly 300 riders to accommodate, I don't have the answer to make it better except for using transponders to even the groups. 8. wrong about the rider spooked though..........he was "pacing" as much as the others around him......this in itself a shambolic act from all concerned especially given the speech at the registration/briefing......

  9. 300 people:Woot: yikes
how does that work? just 3 groups?
    Are there enough garage spaces?
Would love to get over this year for it.

  10. Chaotic registration process.
    Over subscribed groups.
    Very, very novice, novice group.

    Good day out though :)

I did an FE day there with Matt @Matt DWrecker a few weeks after, which had smaller groups, just not as many Ducatis.

  11. Big garages with plenty of space, some allocated to dealers like Snells and Moto Rapido. 90 odd bikes in a group was challenging especially as some in the intermediates would have been happier in the fast group. Just means you get overtaken quite often. Most had the discipline, some didn't. Silverstone is a wide circuit so is fairly forgiving and despite my reservations and one scary moment when a tosser undertook me at the end of the start straight, I had a great day. Andy

  12. Agree with Nelson there, think the Ducati days seem to be trackdays with a more social side than the FE/No Limits days. Still plenty of track time though. And like he said, if you're fairly decent in the novice group on normal trackdays I'd be inclined to book inters.

  13. I might consider doing Donnington with a JetSki, as it seems the most appropriate form of Transport. Especially with the last recent few years TD.

  14. Wasn't one a special guest of DUK?

  15. Anyone know the noise limit for this event? (Any D16RRs on track?)

  16. 105db static or 102db drive by although I have no recollection of a noise test being carried out before getting on track. Yes there were several last July although one didn't make it out of the pits - regulator cooked and caught fire although fortunately was seen before any damage was done. Andy

  17. Some of the comments dont ring true for me here. I may be wrong with some details but the rider that was airlifted was a visiting racer I believe, and I'm pretty sure that he and the other riders around him were all riding in a similar way. The CSS safety guy did make a point of the way they were riding afterwards but they all knew what they were doing and it was an unfortunate accident. I was in the fast group with them, and despite being one of the slowest in the group I didn't once feel any problems.
The fast group didn't have as many people as the others but I also hired a Monster 1200 from CSS and went out in the intermediate group for three or four session as well and the track still felt a lot less crowded and hectic than most of the normal trackdays I go to.
So in summary IMO Silverstone is more than big enough of handling this many people and it still feels relatively quiet compared to other trackdays, especially if you save yourself a bit for the afternoon sessions where the numbers drop down.

  18. you appear to be missing the point that it was a track day!

...and a lovvie ducati love in social track day at that.......I dont recall the briefing saying its a track day apart from the first session after lunch :)rolleyes:notoriously the one where the major fook ups occur!) where all racers, wannabe racers and other hangeronners can get a go at hanging on to the coat tails of a BSB or WSB star.....with a rolling start.... totally inappropriate!

  19. Returning to track days last year after an enforced lay off following Achilles tendon surgery, the one thing that took me by surprise was the increase in the percentage of riders who were intermediate and better. So much so, that several days at Brands had too few places and there were riders far too good for the novices group but that was the only group with places. With the use of transducers the grouping got a little better but there were some seriously pissed off good riders. Still agree with andyb that track days are just that and not the place for some of the antics seen at the Ducati day at Silverstone last year. Andy

  20. Watch out for those Ducati Challenge riders
