V4 Ducati's Pricing

  1. The gag reflex kicks in at some point and we walk away because it is no longer worth the price.
Everyone has a line in the sand when it comes to inflated prices they refuse to pay.
Sadly, I've reached that point. More power to you if you haven't.
What's your line in the sand, the point at which you simply refuse to pay the asking price?

  2. New bike (sports) prices do seem a bit mad, even the meat and 'taters blade is £20k

  3. No line. If I want something that I cannot (or do not want to) afford at the time, I save until I can afford it. If I still want it after that, happy days. Andy

  4. Not having the money and having to save is different to Ducati simply asking too much, which I think the post relates too?

  5. First two words of my post “No line”. If I want a specific new Ducati from a dealer, I’ll pay the price, even if I have to save for it. Andy

  6. I have a moveable line, but the line has decided that Ducati's are no longer worth what Ducati try to prize from me. I too will save if I have to. I can currently afford a new V4S. I decided I will buy an R1M instead, but then further decided to keep what I have (1299S) and wreck it in the pursuit of laptimes and foreign sunshine. So I am using my funds for foreign jollies and screw Ducati. Oh, plus I will be restoring my 916 and upgrading my garage instead.

I wont be buying a new or more modern Ducati. If I wreck the 1299, I'll be on a Yam next. Thats more Italiany than Ducaudi.

  8. Its not what I will pay but what i get for it.
A D16 at £50k would be yes but a Hyper SP at £16k would be no.

  9. Until the Yam goes boom like so many appear to do on track :bomb::motorcycleduc::broken_heart:

  10. I'll gladly pay -for anything- what I think I will get back in smiles (plus residual value with bikes/cars etc).

I haven't bought new in years, but I've owned all kinds of virtually unused stuff. It just makes better sense to me to have "more things" whilst spending the same amount of money, so two or three bikes for the price of one new one... I imagine one day I might buy a lemon, but so far so good.

  11. Don't know what no line meant, but get you :D

I think they're all too dear anyway :yum

  12. You mean like the 1098 cranks or the gearboxes of cheese? I could list a variety of Ducati track bike failings, like I could for suzuki, bmw etc. Defend your marque all you like, but do not be blinded by their failings. All bikes have them.

  13. It’s not my marque. I have Ducati’s but not for track (anymore). I have a GSXR for track. Cheap as chips. And as bulletproof as you can get.

  14. Not exactly on point but for me that position has been reached with the DesertX. Lovely machine but to have to spend in excess of £1k for engine bars to protect from the inevitable drop off-road, makes it an unacceptable level of "Audi" premium

  15. ? Then why infer as you did? What is your point? Some bikes, pushed to their limits may go pop? Id be unlikely to push a 600 to its limits, the R1 would hardly be stretched. Id be more likely to crash them than blow them up.

  16. Simply that the R1 has a rep for failing on track - that was my point. Especially the 2015 bike with snapped cranks.

  17. Was that not because they had omitted the crank thrust washers, so not an inherent problem?

  18. Not all, but many new bike purchases are now on PCP. It’s not really a case of paying the list price any longer, but more can the monthly payments be met.

  19. My dealer told me 90% of bikes they sold were on PCP. So as bike prices have risen, so have interest rates. He also said that 85% of bikes they sold this year were V4 Multis .

  20. Head of Ducati Design said in Mcn that there are no cheap Ferraris and no cheap Porsches. riders will ride other brands and aspire to own a Ducati later in their riding life. In other words making Ducati's more expensive and moving it further upmarket
