Hi all A friend of mine at work has always wanted to do his bike licence so was looking into doing all the relevant training. He recently sent his licence to the dvla for a change of address. When he got it back, it was endorsed with a full A licence, even though he has done no trainingat all yet!! What would you do? Flag it up with the dvla as an error or never look a gift horse in the mouth and get riding? After al, he does technically have a valid licence from the dvla saying he can ride! Is there any way he would get found out if he got pulled over? I know if it was me, I would own up coz I never get away with stuff like that!! What do you think? ?
i'd still do the test wouldnt want to get in to an accident and the insurers find out that my licence was not valid
Flag it up. Worst case he has an accident, kills himself/ another person or seriously injures himself and the subsequent investigation finds he doesn't have a license, insurance doesn't pay out and he's in a whole world of trouble. In the event of death his life insurance(if he has it) might not pay out either. Where would that leave his relatives?
It's obviously a simple clerical error - it may be that he's not even recorded on DVLA's computer as having Cat A on the licence. The only sensible option is to contact DVLA and point out their error. Quite apart from the insurance issues, he would probably be looking at fraud charges if he knowingly used a licence that he is not entitled to... No doubt someone more qualified than me in these matters will be able to clarify that...
