e-mail from Ducati Got an e-mail from ducati re new heat sheild for exhaust and right side engine block, plus 41t rear sprocket and up-map. Anybody else got one. Thoughts on the new style sheilds.
I’ve not got an E-mail yet but was at an open evening at local Ducati dealer last week. The technicians had been over to the factory previous week and showed me some photos of the new heat shields. They looked absolutely disgusting, cheap plastic and make the whole right hand side of the bike look awful. One shield replaces the metal shield that covers the exhaust loop under the seat. This should be fun to fit as you need to unbolt the rear seat sub frame and hinge it up so you can remove the existing shield, will probably be done by the dealer. The second shield looks like a black plastic cover that bolts over the existing clutch cover. This completely covers the lovely Magnesium clutch cover casing making the bike look cheap IMHO. They couldn’t say officially of course, but the gossip is Ducati are offering these shields in reaction to a case in the US where a guy burnt his leg on the exhaust shield when he was riding the bike wearing shorts !!!! I for one won’t be getting the new shields fitted, especially having replaced the existing exhaust shield with a lovely carbon fibre one, and also fitting the DP carbon fibre clutch cover as well. Will be interesting if Ducati start to fit these as standard on new bikes or if they just offer it as an optional retrofit to owners, and thereby protect themselves from similar compensation claims. Did the E-mail include any photos of the new shields ????
Got mate who has ordered a Pani for delivery in April. When he looked at the you tube clips of the bike with the heat shields he's now trying to find out if new production bikes will be fitted with these delivered from the factory. He says he doesn't want one now if they do !!! guess they can be removed but then you do not have the original exhaust shield to replace the new one. Anyone know ? Didn't realise until looking at the you tube clip the shields completely cover the engine on both sides of the bike - looks even more ugly than I thought
Well with all this snow it's nice to see Ducati have fitted the Panigale with its' very own snow shovel. :-(
Here's some photos of a new Pani at the local dealers - wonder what the new owner will think of the heat shields ??? - Also wonder what Ducati will do with the 1199R - will they fit the shields to those as well
Hopefully the new owner will be able to get them removed and the original style ones fitted, that or be straight on to aftermarket parts to get a carbon fiber heat shield, And all because some fuck-tard burnt their leg whilst wearing shorts... allegedly. Either way that new shield is absolutely gopping
In my email they also mentioned a new mapping and the z41 rear sprocket with the ducati performance exhaust. Is this yet another new map? I already had a software change as an upgrade a month ago. The sprocket is only for the new system or it doesnt matter you can change it anyway? Not sure if you pay for this.. Thanks p.
