Evening all. Just doing a bit in the shed. Does anybody know. Did all early 916’s have pankl rods? Cheers Chris
Yes these are steel, I believe it’s 996 on that they went titanium. This is a 94 bike, and just trying to establish if pankl were standard issue in the early bikes.
I've pankl installed in a 1997 916 model, but were added later in 1999,so i guess maybe not on a standard motorbike.
Having seen a lot of pankl parts in my life. Those rods in the picture don't look anything like the finish I'd expect to see.
The 1st 916 Strada's had "H" section rods, those in your pic's look more like standard 851/888 "H" section rods to me. Pankl's were usually only fitted to the SP/SPS models. Clean them up and they might have PANKL marked on them, but from the machine/finish they look like 851/888 items. Don't worry if they aren't PANKL's as the standard 851/888 rods were far superior to the later "I" beam 916 rods. Steve R
Thanks Steve,i didn't know that information as my build sheet says the word "Titanium",everyday on here is a learning one and very rewarding.
