An unmolested original early as possible bike has long been on my radar, most I considered were either later bikes or heavily modified.
This bike, I believe, it s one of the earliest bikes that came to the UK before the fire at the Varese factory. One of the 199 distributed through Europe.
Have mailed Livio for more info but Italy is shut until the end of August.
Had a long chat with Richard at Louigi Moto about what to look out for. All of the distinguishing features of early bikes were there.
    Blue sensor just below headstock
    Aluminium non adjustable brake leavers
Clip on clamps with single bolt
Gold steering damper with chrome rod (later ones were black)
Front of tank rounded as opposed to the square bit around ignition barrel
Rear disc held by four M6 hex screws.
    Lower faring fixings.
    P8 computer

registered August 1994 so on a M plate.

Anyway all of the above and other features tallied up with Richards advice. Deal was done and collected today.

It’s a beauty in my eyes, the original vision of Tamburini’s design, pure and elegant.

Before you all jump at me, yes yes I know, no original screen, bar ends, heel plates, rear hugger, chain guard. All of this will be rectified, have a box of original parts.

Will be asking lots of questions/advice in coming months. I can’t stop looking at it.

  10. Will be interesting what Livio can say about the VIN.

Getting definitive information about the 199 'S' bikes is a challenge.

Some say they were a euro SP with different cams in to meet the American emissions? But that would mean they left the factory with a MPH speedo?

  11. The 1st 916 Strada's also came with either 851/888 "H" section conrods or Pankle's of a similar design, they also had a higher Red line because of this than the later Bi posto's fitted with "I" beam rods.
This allowed them to make more power than the later examples.

  15. I agree with you mate. It’s just a bit of light hearted banter, I can take it. Although it has shed light on how I have it go, will deal with it when it’s cooler.
As for the bike, I’m please as punch, keep popping into garage to have a peek at it, have done that with any bike I’ve owned in years. And I have spent triple the money on other bikes.

  18. The Pankle's were "H" beam as were the 851/888 rods, the later 916 Bips had horrible chunky "I" beam rods.

  19. I had a 916SP in 1995 chassis number 04058. Eng 4301. It was stolen from outside Brands Hatch in 1998! It was a fab bike and I would have happily strung the tea leaf up. Come full circle now and have a 998R. Its faster and I'm older but I can still go in the garage and look at it like you SP4S!
