Decided after much thought to pre-order a Skully AR-1 a few months back. Was not entirely sure I had done the right thing but one of the reasons I went to EICMA in Milan, back in November, was because I learnt of their very under-publicized appearance on the Aprilia stand. After bombarding the poor guy from Skully with numerous questions, he proceeded to show me one of several new features being rolled out, the most impressive of which was a wireless up-link that will allow CAN bus data/engine parameters to be fed directly to the HUD display in the helmet. Skully worked in conjunction with Aprilia on this and it is my understanding it will be an option in the near future, on the RSV-R for those that want it. Software upgrades as well as third party development apps are also well along the way. I also wanted to see one in the flesh, to see if it stacked up in terms of quality of finish and fit compared to an established brand such as Arai, Shoei, Shark, Nolan, AGV etc. I have to be honest and say from what I saw and bear in mind this was only a prototype, I could not really fault it. Certainly there were a couple of minor points, but these have already been addressed for production. I also felt it was worth the trip, to at least be able to try it on. In terms of fit, it is very very similar to the new Shoei NSR. Also I rather like the rear view camera which has a massively wide field of view which you can adjust up and down depending on your riding position (sportsbike, tourer, custom etc) as an extra pair of eyes. Saying that, old habits die hard so I'll still be checking over my shoulder with "lifesavers" The list of proposed upgrades to the software, which is already at a very advanced and customisable level, is growing and all will be available to existing owners via their website and a USB connection. Last week, Skully have just opened a customer portal for people who pre-ordered, to submit their size details and deliveries are supposed to start in March 2015. Can't wait. Yes I know they are pricey but it is my 50th next year so I figured I would treat myself.
Sorry not for me. Sounds like distraction I could do without, and what will having the CAN linked to a HUD achieve?
Typical American product, everything you could possibly want apart from safety, not once did I see anything about how safe it is? Too much of a gimmick for me also. Battery life is poor and having to charge every ride would be a pain.
