Hi all, Advice needed please - i recently sold an item on ebay, worth less than £50, and posted it by royal mail 1st class, i also obtained a proof of postage certificate. The buyer is saying he hasn't received it, with hindsight i should have sent it tracked. Is there any way i can check with Royal mail through the proof of postage slip as to whether it has actually been delivered? i've no reason to think the buyer is a liar but i would like to confirm things. If he opens a case with Ebay where do i stand? Thanks for any advice.
You will lose. I ordered some light bulbs as a click and collect from a seller, they arrived at the collection location but they ‘lost’ the parcel. Seller thought he had completed his part of the transaction and it was my responsibility to seek recourse from the location I opened a case against him in the end, got refunded by eBay. It’s the seller’s responsibility to ensure delivery. You can seek compensation but when I claimed it was limited to £27, it may be more as this was 20 years ago.
I'm fairly sure that you can claim for loss of your item from Royal Mail only once 10 days have elapsed following the due date. Also the max compensation I believe is £20?. Claims must be made within 80 days, otherwise RM conditions stipulate that you are not entitled to anything at all... Re. eBay, without 100% proof of delivery, you may as well simply agree to refund the buyer, as eBay will rule that you are at fault.
EBay will just refund as they are holding payment. This is Royal Mail’s position https://www.royalmail.com/help/lost-items-parcels-letters
If you have proof of purchase from the PO, ie a receipt then you're covered up to £50 i think, they'll have a form for you to fill out.
