Ecu Advise

  1. Hi guys.

I have been a victim of the ignition coil failure on my hypermotard 821 sp.

I have been told that my ecu is most likely been fried due to the low quality of the beru coil sticks used by ducati.

I have new coils being delivered in a week or so.

However, the ecu is very pricey but I've been told that the rsv4 (Aprilia) is the same ecu from magneti Marelli.

    Here's a photo of it.

    Anyone has experience with it?
Can someone confirm this information is either wrong or accurate?

Thank for your input in advance.
    Maurizio

  2. If you confirm that it is an IAW7SM there may be a solution. It is not an ECU I have experience of and do not know if it has immo. If it does not then providing you can diagnostically connect to the ECU you can use Guzzidiag IAW7SM reader to dump your original map. Then you can use Guzzidiag IAW7SM writer to flash a second hand ECU. You will need the cables compatible with Guzzidiag.

  3. Hi there.
How do i know id this is an IAW5SM.?
    What exactly is this code?
Is there something on the photos that can tell me that?

    Thank you

  4. That’s a typo
    Should be IAW7SM

  5. That's the software tight?
I have the original ducati one so that's not a problem.

I wanted to know if the actual physical ecu unit would fit.

I heard about it and can't afford a ducati brand new ecu

  6. As I said this is not a Ducati ECU I have worked with.
Some Googling suggests that the Aprilia ECU may not be suitable due to hardware differences. Ducati use a HW210 and Aprilia a HW100.
If you can source a second hand Ducati ECU and they do not have immo then it may be possible to use the Guzzidiag software.
Somewhere like the Digital Kaos forum may give you the answer.

  7. Personally, I’d wait til you have the coils and give them a try. I’ve not come across a faulty 7SM to date, but have replaced dozens of the coil sticks.

  8. As Nelly says, put in the new coils and see if it's OK, you don't know for a fact yet that any damage has occurred to the ECU.

  9. Thanks gents.
I've ordered the coils from ducati yesterday and should arrive next week.

I'll keep investigating and being on the lookout for an ecu anyway so that if i need to change it I'll be ready for it. (hopefully not though)

  10. Fingers crossed that you just need coils.
From what I have found the 7SM ECU should be virgin with the dash controlling immo.

  11. Hi @chrisw, please pm me as I’ve been told by @nelly to contact you ref an ecu issue”
