996 Electrical Questions, Battery Not Loading

  1. Hi,
I currently have the problem that after 70km my fully loaded battery is empty.
The lights are working, ignition is okay.
I already replaced it and also the new battery is not loading.
So I measured the loading volate and got ~13.2V.
    I have no failure power.
Measuring the regulator gave 8Ohm for each yellow cable. I read it should be 4-6 Ohm.
Does it mean that my regulator is broken?
I also checked the voltage coming from the stator and here I have 15V in idle mode, going up to 25V at 2000rpm, 35V at 4000rpm and 70V at 6000rpm.
The workshop handbook tells me it should be 110V plus/minus 10 at 6000.
So seems to be to low in my case.
    Is it broken?

Does anybody here have experience with this topic?
I also checked and cleaned the connectors.
    What else?
    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Marco

  2. Very strange thing.
Today I did an other measurement of the battery voltage when engine is running.
I had values from 12.9V jumping up to 20V.
This really looks like a broken regulator.
And it became very hot after max 10min

  3. The regulators do fail, it's very common. The yellow cables, in particular the connector in the middle do corrode and cause problems too. Best cause if action is new cables from the stator directly to a new regulator/rectifier. A modern MOSFET RR is a good upgrade.
Here's a very short video I made some time back. Perhaps it helps a little bit.

  4. Hi,
    just a short update.
I got a a cheap regulator from a guy selling his old Ducati in parts. It is in good condition.
I get a high loading voltage again. 13.8V bit over idle.
I keep the MOSFET idea in mind for the next time.
    Thanks for helping.
