Electrical whizz anyone?

  1. I can use the indicator switch ok, but with my injury / disability would think a push button for left and right (press again to cancel) would make like easier. Anyone with any contacts / recommendations for this is n essex / suffolk? No idea how tricky this might be, but thought it worth investigating anyway.
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

  2. Oh, I thought it was an invitation.

    Good luck.

  3. Doc. The electronics side of things wouldn't be too much trouble. What would be is packaging it neatly. Look at the 3 button system BMW use on it's tourers. The buttons need to be easy to find in gloves which prevents nice small elegant solutions. Depending on how much thumb movement you have, you could grind off the little lug inside your current switch gear, (there to stop it spinning round if you push too hard), this would allow you to move the switch gear around a bit to a better position. Just do the screws up tight afterwards to stop said spinning. Or, fit some switchgear from say a TCS bike and modify the switch wiring to what ever's most suitable.
Everything's possible, it's all a matter of how badly you want to do it.

  5. Thanks for replies. I ride with fingerless gloves over a pair of thinsulate type as normal gloves too bulky, so that may actually help in my case. That switchgear looks pretty interesting! My 749 is currently being serviced and having some bits of cosmetic tlc also whilst I'm on hols - will speak to the chaps when I'm back / bike comes home to look at possibilities / potential costs for adaption if go that route.
Good spot and thx again all.

  6. the red dip/main switch on the same switch on early models could be perfect but as said, incorporating two of them neatly into a plastic switch body would be the challenge.

  7. Yeah, the packaging seems more of a prob especially to keep it waterproof?
Has some mileage in it though - someone with more skill and imagination than me out there somewhere will prob see it as child's play!!

  8. Doctor, you're probably better off with trying to get a pair of switchgears like the bmw ones and fitting them in their entirety or use the solution that simmy linked to. Rewiring will be a doddle, it's really just a matter of mating the connector blocks to the right block on your loom I think.

  9. Have you thought of fitting a left side indicator switch on the L/H side and a R/H indicator switch on the R/H side this would reduce the chances of pressing the wrong button.

  10. Hi and thx Catweazle - is a possibility but also will try to keep "changes" as minimal as possible.
