Hello I'm preparing the bike for a tour of Portugal. I'm going to be adding Givi Led spots so they can see me coming, a tomtom to show me the way there and a tank bag with USB ports inside to keep phone, batteries and other gizmos charged. The advice I need is the best way to power all this? I've found the sat nav feed under the left hand panel. Should I use this for just the lights and then take everything straight off the battery or split the sat nav feed and power everything ? And would that little cable cope with it all? Many thanks for any assistance. Cheers
I have the sat nav feed powering the sat nav and also a switch to trigger a relay which in turn powers the spotlights from the battery via a fuse... In your case i would use the sat nav feed to trigger the relay and power everything that way. It is linked to the ignition so you cant leave something charging and flatten the battery.
Thanks Stonesie, forgive my ignorance but how would I connect everything to the sat nav feed ? And dies the relay get triggered by a device calling for power ? Thanks
The relay would be switched on by the power from the sat nav feed and supply power from the battery through a fuse. The connectors they use for the sat nav feed are only rated at 3 Amps.
You could try a Rowe electronics PDM60. It allows you to fit a number of accessories and protects all of the circuits. It is also programmable so you can have some devises timed to come on X amount of time after you switch on or a set time after you switch off. You can set things to always on too. I have one fitted to my old DS1000 and it works a treat. Rowe Electronics - Customized Electronic Solutions › modules Jack Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I should have said you can get one from Nippy Normans Ltd in the UK. Jack Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I removed one of the rear din sockets and move the connector it back under the seat, then made a cable to take this to a waterproof superseal connector from my tank bag. inside the tank bag I placed one of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00N31FZT4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 For the tomtom I did just use the GPS connector and as suggested you could use that or the din socket to switch on a relay for the lights.
