1200 DVT Eml On After Desmo Service

  1. I completed the desmo service on the DVT at the weekend and as the sun was out today decided to take it for a run. Noticed the EML is on. The bike is running perfectly fine. Will double check the sensor connections etc but just wondering if this is normal? Or has anyone else experienced this?

  2. If you did the Desmo Service yourself then you could expect the Service light to still be on, as unless you have the right (dealer?) software I don't think you could cancel it.
If it is a generic EML then that's not normal and you can check the fault code on the dash.

  3. Yes I completed the desmo service myself and it went perfectly. Not sure how I can check the fault code on the dash

  4. Having looked through every page in my Owners Manual, I may have been mistaken about reading the error codes. It was possible on earlier versions (I often had to use it on my 1100 Multi for example), but the Bosch ECU on the DVT apparently can't be read from the dash. I think you need a dealer or a specialist OBD reader to get the code. Sorry.

  5. Thanks for confirming, thought there may have being something I’ve missed. Apparently it’s not uncommon for the DVT to through up an EML light, especially after sitting for a little while. I will check all the sensors and see what I find.
I may have to invest in one of these OBD star kits that some have used to talk to the newer models

  6. Common error after Desmo or belts is a cam position sensor. Usually it’s been timed wrong. Very easy on the DVT…. Another common one is the two sensors on the rear cylinder, again I think for the cam sensors (they’re blue) get connected the wrong way around. The loom layout allows this. They’re marked up inlet and exh if you need to check.

  7. I kept all the timing exactly spot on. Checked, checked and double checked again. The engine is running absolutely spot on.
As you advise, it must be a sensor. I will check everything over and reckon I must have got the cam sensors connected incorrectly.

  8. I have just had a quick look and I can see that I connected the horizontal cam sensors the wrong way round. Thanks again for the advice. I will swap them to how they should be later on today and hopefully that will have done the trick!
