I was hoping to push it out until October but, unfortunately, I'm having to put the bike in storage a few weeks early. I need to store a bunch of stuff in the conservatory due to inlaws moving to France and no longer having a garage for me to keep my furniture in. I'll be moving house in a few months too so it's best out of the way. It's been a good year for me, this year. Managed to get through 4 different bikes ('08 R6, '08 R1, a Chinese 250 cc Motocross bike and a '14 Triumph Street Triple R ABS.) I also rode an 1199 base model which was a pleasant experience but not an everyday bike for me. I feel I pushed my own limits in a terms of speed, road riding ability and comfort with different riding styles. I managed to get to a BSB round, a MotoGP round and I haven't missed and single GP on tele either. Not bad considering I didn't get back to the UK until the end of May. Here's to next year and an over-winter of bitching at each other on the forum because the weather is crap. Stay safe through the winter, you crazy all-weather riders!
It'll take you a wee while to walk to my house fin, through most of the country so I'll save the fear until the haggis are knocking off my belt-kit
Never mind. You can always sit about the house in your new Rossi leathers whilst waiting for next year
Ride all year, what's the point in allowing the weather to dictate? I go out in all sorts and appreciate the dry, warmer conditions even more as a result. There's an element of hardcore mixed with stupidity by crouching outside for shelter at Box on a cold, damp February Sunday.
Bike in storage! Bollox to that. I ride all year and you would be surprised how many dry crisp (frigging cold) days you can enjoy during the winter months.
I've ridden in winter before. The lack of grip, the cold - induced pain. It's not for me. I've been cold and wet through no choice of my own too many times. I'm away on a course next month so I'm not able to ride until the new year any way.
theres a season?..been a 12mth season for me for 40yrs,alright 2ft of snow/tornados and massive downpours are a nono as best can be helped but winter has some excellent riding conditions sometimes i find, some cracking crisp clear sunny days.
With osteoarthritis in my hip a winter ride would be a serious lapse of judgement. Back on two wheels in spring, after what will be a hiatus / recovery of 2 1/2 years. My first ride will probably feature lunch at super sausage in Towcester if anyone wants to meet there (final date TBC, but probably over Easter)
Heated grips are a must for me, now on every bike. Decent colder weather clothes with modern tech base layers mean I've never really been cold. I have heated boot liners and an under waistcoat heated thing I can never be bothered with, decent textiles work for me. I'm sort of lucky in that I don't feel the cold too much anyway, I'm a T shirt sort all year round and just figure the central heating is there if I need it, window open all night every night. Concentration camp rules, stay away from the fire in the cold and you survive better.
I have spring, summer, autumn and winter bike attire (alright, maybe some of it shares a season). Only snow and ice would stop me.
