1200 Engine Bars???

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Kempy, Apr 16, 2014.

  1. I'm in two minds about fitting engine bars to my Multi. if I do I'll probably go with the SW Motech ones.

i know a few guys on here have them fitted so i'd like your thoughts, do they weigh a ton, do they get in the way of your knees when ridding, are they a sod to fit and has anyone dropped their bike
(i actually hope not though) on them - did they do the job?

    Thanks everyone.

  2. Am interested in a set as well - they saved my BMW in a lowside last year.

Any particular reasons for choosing the Motech versions? Looks/cost/etc?

  3. I got a discount on the Ducati ones, ordered at the same time as my bike with a negotiated rate for fitting them and my other accessories (luggage and heated grips). They turned up just before my first service, which is when I got them fitted, so I'd done ~600 miles without them.

    Haven't noticed the difference.

Nowhere near, and I haven't got short legs. (I can flat-foot the Multi, if that's any indication.)

No, quite easy: I paid the dealer. :)

    Haven't tried that yet...

  4. Ducati ones are the best fit, IMHO and that's what i have on my bike.

  5. I'm not sure what year your bike s kempy (i think you bought a new one but can't keep up with all e posts on here)

Just be aware that 2010, 2011 and earlier & 2012 bikes didn't have one of the mounting brackets needed for the ducati ones.

  6. Mine is a March 12 registered 1200s and the Ducati crash bars fitted straight on including that fiddly bolt that goes slantwise and forwards into a bracket tacked to the frame. When Craig at MR checked the part numbers for the crash bar kit and the 2013 standard fitment my memory tells me that they were the same although the accessories kit was a lot cheaper. Andy

  7. Andy. the bike is a 2012 (i did buy new but obv in 2012 ;))

I'm only thinking about engine bars now as I have had a few close shaves lately...on my driveway (damn neighbours cat) and I'm sure I'm gonna drop it soon.

Thinking of the Motech ones simply because they seemed popular and not too fugly but you guys seem to be going with the DP ones.

sorry to confuse the issue but what about the R&G bungs/sliders. Do they keep the plastic from hitting the deck? as I say I'm concerned about dropping it when wheeling it out the garage not a 100mph highside.

    cheers again

  8. I had the R&G frame aero blades fitted before I bought the crash bars. I had no issue with them, I just felt that the crash bars provided more protection for the side panels. It was my intention to fit the bungs with the bars but the Ducati bars use a metric fine thread and R&G use a metric course. It's still possible just got to make an adaptor. From previous posts bars appear to be the favourite way to go and at about £90 the R&G is an expensive experiment. Andy
