Engine Cleaner

  1. Have a multistrada with baked in road grime it’s a v4 and it’s the lower front and sides, looking for a cleaner that won’t damage the finish but get it cleaner. I have tried muck off but it’s not really made much difference, used a brush to try to remove.

    any guidance would be appreciated

    thanks

  2. Got any pics ? - is it corrosion or muck. Muck will come off. Corrosion will not

  3. Looks like tar, dirt etc.

  4. Whilst I have it striped would like to clean it up

  5. on the second image the dark spots are probably tar. Which can be pulled off with Brake cleaner.. Might get some of the rest off too... I'd spray it and use a stiff nylon bristle rush see how you get on. the smooth cast piece should clean up alright. The sandcast pieces are harder if it's ingrained

  6. Try WD40, I find that works best at getting rid of tar and all sorts of shite. Spray on, leave for a while, spray some more on then agitate with a stiff brush. If it’s on a vertical surface put some kitchen towel onto it and spray that so it soaks through, being wet it will stay in place.

Once it’s all a brown mess a liberal spray of Holts Brake & Parts cleaner will wash it all away.

  7. Jizer is great at removing road grime and tar deposits however it can mark plastics so needs to be used with care.

  8. None of these will strip any of the colour off ? Is it a painted engine the v4 or is that the aluminium block.

Have deep cleaned a triumph in the past and stripped the colour from the engine, but that was painted black.

as always thanks for the advice, find it better to ask those that have done than just trust google and the crap you get in search results

  9. Neither WD40 nor Holts B&P cleaner will mark the paint. I’m not sure the gold colour is paint, it seems like an anodised coating, anyway, I’ve used them on mine with no detrimental effects.

  10. I've used Gunk since the late 70's I've never found anything that is better
Don't waste money on the spray on stuff

  11. Gyeon tar remover sprayed on and left for about 5 minutes, agitate with a soft brush, then jet wash off will take care of the worst of the tar

SDOC100 gel cleaner to wash the bike

Just the tonic to get rid of the rest of the tar, then GT85 to finish it all off

Yes, I’m a sad fucker, but my hours of cleaning bikes over the years has given me the knowledge to pass on!
