Hi guys, I ride 749s and yesterday all of a sudden while riding the engine started to cut off and on i squeezed the clutch lever and revved the engine it was revving absolutely fine. Next i released the clutch and tried to continue but the engine again started to cut off and on. I stopped and let it idle for a while,no problem the engine was idling perfectly like usual. I have stopped the engine smoke a cigarette and then i started the engine,no problem but when i tried to move along the same happened cut off and on. So I was revving with me clutch on then release the clutch for a short and continue doing so just to get the bike moving someway and bring it home. Have anyone had such an issue? I red all the posts and couldn't identify my problem. Any advice and opinion is appreciated. Pardon my English it is not my mother tongue.
check switch on side stand that works by cutting engine when in gear so you cant move off , if pull clutch in or have it out of gear it by passes the switch if the switch stats shorting can cut engine out when riding common on most bikes good place to start
+1 for the side stand switch, especially as the engine runs as soon as you pull the clutch lever in. Andy
Have you had it serviced recently? I had a similar sounding problem on my 748 that was caused due to a loose altenator nut. Hence fine on tickover but no producing enough volts when running. It was an intermittant problem that started on a blink of an eye when I pulled away quite quick... I think that checking the torque on the altenator nut is now listed as something to do as part of the service Cheers, Bob
