what is the best brand black aerosol spray paint for the stock aluminum color engine guard/skid plate, to make it resemble the Pikes Peak engine guard/skid plate?
Then I would suggest, depending on your abilities, spray with a premium automotive paint, then use a premium lacquer/topcoat to give a hardened surface
Powder coat, speaking from experience had my dvt powder coated and skimped on the 1260 and thought I’d paint it myself used primer and plasticoat and it lasted all of about 20 miles. Powder coat every time for a lasting job, I had my pillion peg hangers done too
There’s a cheap trick that works....... use a protective glove, paint by using the end of your finger, use almost a smearing action. Learnt it years ago on automotive bumpers. My PP has over 3000 miles and chips covered well. I use :- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HYCOTE-Satin-Black-Acrylic-Paint-Colour-Brush-Touch-Up-Stick-12-5ml-/362413897649
I was lucky and got a set of original PP black ones that had done no miles for £30. the guy i got them from removed them because he fitted a 1260 enduro bash plate. I believe the PP ones are anodised from the factory.
ahhhh.....so a 1260 enduro bash plate fits a normal 1260! I’ve been trying to find that out for a while
I can honestly say that the black finish on the 2020 PP Last almost 200 yards before it needs touching up.
If it's aluminium parts, definitely get them anodised. It doesn't cost very much, and will last better than a thin coat of paint.
FFS ... i broke down and decided to get the new/spare skidplate powder coated. it'll be done in two weeks.
