Dear all can anyone help me with this engine number as per photo, it has 916 in it so I take it's a 916??? Also the cylinder heads have a 94 in a circle 1994 maybe, I was looking at a spare engine for my 996 but might have just bought a load of scrap metal
No, short engine minus carbs/throttle bodies, i posted a week or so back, a mate has been given a load of stuff to sell, a complete 916 in bits, a 998 track bike, various engines etc, he said this was a 996 but it has the larger Ducati castings which my 996s hasn't, on closer inspection at home the engine case o/s has been down road and is holed, the heads looked complete but on closer inspection have 3 of the Desmo gear missin, I haven't paid him yet so will most likely give it all back, as it's probably not worth scrap metal value
As above heads manufactured in 1994 and usually ended up on bikes of that year or the following year 1995. Looks like you have an early 916 on your hands. Do you have the barrels? if so when were they manufactured? Sometimes later bikes had earlier parts put on them if they were still in the parts bin at the time.
Had a look at barrels this is only markings and what looks like a elephant emblem otherside, could it be be cagiva ??? Also as multiple parts could've gt mixed up with the other 916 engine
Looks like they are 94 barrels as well. You could break the engine for parts if you can get it fully apart it might be good for some bits and pieces.
Barrels would be good for someone doing an 853 conversion to a 748. The rest would be the normal run of the mill parts but still worth something. The gearbox is not a close ratio type so it could be good for someone who wants something more of a touring type, very high first gear etc.
