  1. any recommendations on black engine paint,i was thinking of using VHT engine enamel paint, has anyone tried it?

  2. I need to paint my engine on an st3 - but need something I can brush on as a temp measure until I have time to take the engine out - and also to paint the rad sides black - not sure what to use for that

I have some silver engine paint (spray on) from Halfrauds that I used on my 600ss and has stood up well - have seen people recommend to use acid etch primer though I didn't - will do when I do my st3 proper

  3. I got some spray on engine paint from eBay and it has worked well on some engine side casings from a 748. Hammerite satin black spray also works very well but it is hard to get a good finish as it's very prone to running, you need to put on very thin coats. I did some Yamaha side cases from an LC with it and it has lasted years with no sign of peeling. It's resistant to oil and fuel when cured.

  4. What Red says. But very thin coats. I cured mine in my oven. Make sure wifey is away visiting her mam. BTW the dishwasher (without any salt) is a good way to finish the cleaning off prior to spraying.

I painted a whole inline 4 this way. Looked pretty good too.

  5. I was told you didn't have to use etch primer with the VHT,all the cases will be beadblasted.

  6. Etch primer is not high temperature paint, so using it on anything that gets really hot will only cause the paint to lift off. I used Hammerite as above on sand blasted cases which gave a good key. Vapour blasting would be favourite if you know somewhere you can get it done and it's easier to get the left over debris out of the cases if they are bare.

  7. ok thanks I have a vapour blaster to finish off,the engine will need bead blasting first as it is so bad,my mate painted his engine in two pack, looks good.
