Engine Rebuilds Midlands

  1. I'm after someone to strip the bottom end on a 1098 lump I have sitting about.

It's only just had a top end rebuild however now the gearbox isn't quite right.

Just want the cases splitting and the replacement gearbox I have slotting in.

And recommendations of someone close to Derby who could do the work?...on a very very tight budget so can't brake the bank, however needs to be someone who knows what there doing.

  2. If you want someone who really knows what they're doing, I'd recommend Nelly at Cornerspeed.

  3. Yes cornerspeed is on my "to call list"

More wondering if there's any sort of 1 man bands who do engine work.

  4. Or a forum member who likes getting the hands dirty for a few beer tokens.

  9. wanting the job done right......and not wanting to pay i.e. break the bank are two statements that dont go together in the ducati engine build world!

Also you won't be able to split the crankcases without taking the tops to bits.........

  12. If you got the labour for nothing it still wouldnt be a cheap job . Gaskets, oils, belts, it all adds up .

  13. I think people are taking this the wrong way, I don't ever expect it to be cheap...it's a Duc motor for f's sake. I just don't want to pay dealer prices!

I certainly don't want it to be bodged, however I'm not being ripped off!!

There's only so may people I can find through a Google search, hence posting on here to find out what people think and if they know someone who doesn't advertise as such.

I would much rather pay an individual rather than a company.

  14. As above go to Ducati John. He did my 748R engine when the main bearing went. The important thing was that I took the engine to him and he stripped it in front of me and went through what was needed with me. So there were no nasty surprises.

Total cost was £1400 of which over £900 was for parts. In the end I got a rebuild with all new main bearings, shimmed crank, new big end bearings, belts, oil, oil filter and even an oil filter tool to get the new filter on and off.

I had to supply a new side casing and I changed the gearbox due to slight wear in two cogs, but I had those parts anyway.

    Can't recommend him highly enough.

  15. i would try to catch Jeff Green (GTEC) before he departs these shores..........

you would be surprised how many of the so called expert engine builders actually have him do the rebuild!

  17. 2nd Jeff ( the only thing Andy and I ever agree on ;). )

  18. spr ruddington would be where I would take anything I can't do myself

after that cornerspeed would be my next port of call
