Might have some cash to get another 848 track bike for NL Endurance racing next year. Looks like it had a hard time on the track... Wondering what an engine refresh would cost... Any ideas? Thanks, Bob
Depends how far you want to go with it... After a main bearing failure on my 1098 it's been pulled apart. Bearings all replaced, front cylinder re coated due to a common problem of scoring the liner then the crank balanced. Then with all new gaskets/seals etc I'm looking at 2k.
Not sure how far I want to go... haven't bought the bike yet; just thinking about what I should expect to pay to stop it having an issue such as a main bearing failure... It might not need a refresh, but after 4 seasons' racing I think it might be worth doing; so long as it's affordable... unless I just get it and run it as it is until I see any problems?
Which then needs rebuilding Does it need a refresh really? Unless it was pushed to its performance limits...surely a belt, oil, filter change and and valve chec job done. My monstare was raced by different peolpe over 6 years, I had balves done, squish set, belts that was it. And i can assure you, nothing gets a hard life like one of those DD bikes they are flat out all the time
Ride it enjoy it,if the engine goes pop buy another engine. 848 engines are pretty cheap and easy to come by and a few hours would have it fitted. Im of the thinking if it isn't broke then don't fix it
