Hi guys, I've gotten an unusual problem with my 749 from 2004. Last night, while driving in the freeway, the EOBD light turned on and at the same time, the engine reduced speed. Even though I held the throttle back. It turned off and the engine ran normally again. This continued for 5-7 minutes untill the oil indicator light turned on. So I quickly filled it with oil. I have 2 issues. 1. In the heat of stress and confusion, I filled up with full-synth oil. Previously it was semi-synth. Note that I havent changed the oil filter. The oil indicator shows its fully loaded and the indicator light is turned off. 2. The engine keeps on running at reduced power while the EOBD light is on. After running af few minutes its turns off, and a few minutes later it turns on again. What do I do? Can I drive it home with the EOBD light switching on and off while the oil light is off? I have about 80 kilometers home. Should I avoid highways & freeways? Regards Michael
Michael, if the EOBD light indicates a coil fault it will stop fuelling that cylinder so you will end up driving a single that sounds a bit rough but it will still be driveable. As it is not fueling it will not dilute the oil with unburnt fuel. See the response in the Welcome section
Hi If you have fuel going into your oil and it’s burning the oil off you will have big plumes of blue smoke out of the exhaust. If you keep doing this you risk glazing the bores and wrecking your engine
