Hi to all, Just wondered if anyone in the group has had this, error Device Des, says in the book, it's ref the Ecu. My bike has only done 2800 miles but as it is a 2010. Multi 1200s Warranty is out.....?? I have had a look around site, but have not seen it listed anywhere however, I did read some info on a ducati .com forum, from across the pond, All sounding really expensive. I am booked into local dealer to check it out, and also do the recalls, ( anti freeze etc), but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Nick
Some guys on here have had that fault, and it turned out to be the ECU/ or rear suspension unit, or both in some cases i think! Be interesting to see what your dealer says with bike been out of warranty with such little miles. Hope its non of these for you and not to costly
DES refers to the suspension and yes, it can be bloody expensive. You may be looking at a simple ECU reflash but the concensus seems to be a replacement shock. I shudder to think but have a feeling it's more than a grand. If it is fucked and it can be done, I'd disconnect it and not worry about it if the dealer isn't any help. Good luck.
I had this. As stated it is either the ecu or the suspension. They have to remove them individually to eliminate which one. This is a well known issue with Ducati so there will be no problem having this fixed out of warranty. Do a search on here and Ducati.ms and print off the posts and take to dealership incase of any problems.
I had this on my 2010 - turned out to need a new rear shock controller, cost £800 but thankfully under extended warranty! If the shock motor has gone, a replacement unit is £2,000 apparently? Mine went at 10k miles and wasn't repaired until 15k miles, but was stuck in Sport mode Luckily. If I was footing the bill, I would have opted for a dealer "light out" and not bothered to try and change the settings (which puts the light back on) and just rue the day I didn't go for the standard model.I would get it in and push for Ducati to sort it - good luck.
Hi guys, thanks for the info, I will keep gathering info, worst case scenario, I will get the light out and leave it in sport mode. i have tried to change settings but no joy, the prices, you have stated are ridiculous. It's only done 2800 miles Im booked into dealer on Friday, provided not snowing, that is. So fingers crossed. I will let you know the results Cheers Guys Nick
Nick Make sure you ask for a repair under warranty, it's a well known fault and you can prove it from forums. They will try and say that only the part is free and you have to cover labour -again tell em it's not your fault and why should they make you pay. You may need to write to Ducati uk hq - one of us has an address... Bugs.
Hi Guys, Ice is thawing, taking my bike in later for recall work, coolant, hands free, and engine ECU?? also they are going to try a reboot on my ECU DES, see what happens then........ I spoke to the shop ref the Device DES , and It doesn't look too promising ref ducati doing on warranty, but I will wait and see results first. thanks to all for posts
yup, get in touch with ducati UK if your dealer is not willing to escalate, make it personal as its your cash.... bugs
Bloody freezing today, not many bikes on the road. Anyway had my recalls done, DES ECU goosed. Or so i found out, once they finished, but in the mean time I was downstairs, fell in love with the new pikes peak and traded my bike in, so ECU not my problem now.......I'm sure shop will have no problem getting the unit changed free of charge.. They said not had one bike in for this problem, I did point out ref this site and known problem etc, I would of pursued further had I not chopped my bike in though. Ah, what have I done!!!!!!It never even crossed my mind, about getting a new bike, That's what happens when you loaf around the shop for a couple of hours. I don't get the bike until end of march, or there about's, hopefully weather better then. I wonder if my misses will notice my bike has changed colour!!!!!! Once again a big thanks for all the posts, and info. Cheers and safe riding. Nick
I did EXACTLY this with Riders and the new Matte Titanuim model in July last year. Took my 2010 S Touring back for service, recalls & DES Error (Suspension unit was fooked, fortunately mine was in last month of warranty), fell in love with the Matte Titanium bike & traded it in on the spot!!! Only had to wait a couple of weeks for it as well. LOVING the new bike. On the subject of the 2010 suspensions breaking, it would seem to be endemic, and I really think that Ducati should do the decent thing & honour warranty any that fail, no matter how long since purchase (with reason of course).
And we wonder why the trade in values are crap :biggrin: The dealers will never sell them! There is obviously a reason why ducati changed the suspension system after only two years. Too many failures.
Hi, I had never heard anything about the suspension probs, until it happened to mine, it an expensive do if you end up paying yourself. More and more cases are coming up, by the looks of this, and other sites i have read. I'm sure ducati wont want all the bad press, and as time goes on they might have to admit there is a problem, we will see. We will have to see how the skyhook system fairs..... Nick
So glad I resisted the temptation to have the fandangled leccy suspension, done another 100 miles today on my ABS Mutley, handled like a dream!
It's the only bike I've had with electronic suspension, and it is good, I must admit, I had a play with it, ( when it was working,) i found a setting I liked, and stuck with it Nothing wrong with a standard system though, at least less to go wrong, If I had done more miles it would have poss shown up sooner, or is it Sod's law because warranty had run out.....
