1200 Essential-dealer-only-servicing - Options

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Bugsbunny, Nov 11, 2014.

  1. have a 2010 s, do a lot of work myself but the second major service will be due in jan/feb/mar and the belts will need doing - looking for recommendations, what paid, and experience ? - based in west London

so my options list so far :
1 snells (main dealer usual choice)
2 pro italia (main dealer nice guys for parts but not used)
    (not metropolis or aylesbury)
3 Walton MD Racing (non main dealer)

any others local or recommended a bit further afield - say up to 150 miles away ? and what price you reckon ?

    - to keep costs down would you ask JUST for the belts to be done and the plugs ? - leaving the oil and other bits to me to do - may save a bit ?

    thanks

  2. Could try Louigi Moto // Ducati Specialists
South of Bristol, on same site as CJS. Ducati specialist. Had mine done there, it wasn't blindingly cheap but I trust they do a very conscientious job.

  3. Pro-Twins at Godstone, a Ducati Only Dealer - not the cheapest but the best IMO and they are flexible in the work that they do so could ask just for belts / shims / plugs etc.

  4. ducati pro team in strood.. it aint a huge trek from west london (i live there also).. but they also pic up and drop off. Alec is the main man.. Independent that has been duc only for ever.. he'll do nothing but look after you.

  5. Please avoid Mike at MD Racing.
His work and approach have fallen well below par.
I've followed Mike from his humble start out of a friends shed to his current location and spent thousands over many years over several models, but the last lot of work and his approach to resolving the issues was not what I'd come to expect.

    Just a few examples include;
    Gear selector showing wrong gear...
"Cost £££, Complete gearbox strip down, need to book it back in"
Solution ~ Diy repair replacing worn gear selector sensor, 30min job.

Replaced New rear brake pads ( my HH pads had done 300 miles).
Bled brakes that I did 40 miles before and made much worse as he'd replaced my rbf600 fluid!!
Oh...and your front fork seals are leaking...so he did two jobs I didn't ask for and didn't need doing, didn't fix the gearbox for which I put the machine in for and told me about an mot failure fault during the hand back at 5pm on a Friday night.
By the way all the fork seal needed was a clean!!
Note he had the bike for 10 days!!!
Forgot to stamp the service book and didn't clean the bike, something I'd expect for £1100.

  6. aircon,

sort of agree, last job was surprisingly dear and his comms were shocking. who do plan to use as an alternative ? - same area me.

  7. No I haven't found one.

Just used SNELLS of Alton for a warranty job.
Their work was fine, but the lend bike (FOC) was a 696 Monster, the chain was so dry it was noisy (and too tight), only 2200 miles and the company demonstrator. If that's how they look after the demo's I'm less confident on the work.
Next will be Lugi (Bristol way CJS)or Rapido (Winchester).....

My choice is based on I like the run down there (45 mins) and working for myself I can be flexible on time off (I get none).
Cannot recommend anyone around here, suppose the nearest would be Pro-twins.

  8. Totally out of my area, but when I had my CJS remap I was talking to the guys at Luigi and it looked a very good and knowlegable operation

  9. I know you are not keen on Metropolis - and normally I would agree with you, but the guys in High Barnet, N.London are great. there are just 2 guys there and they have always gone the extra mile for me, very open and honest about what needs doing (and what does not need doing)

  10. Well I had a test ride on a bike from metropolis, and it was filthy, then clutch needing bleeding badly! So just like Aircontec and his borrowed steed I had no faith,is I did my purchasing elsewhere, and the test ride bike I used there was immaculate, I bought it!

  11. For what it's worth a friend uses Pro Twins for his ST2 and is very very happy with them. I've visited with my Mutley but not had any work done their yet.
