Afternoon all, Very tempted with Almeria in March with FE, never been before. I normally hover around the in the middle of the advanced group in the uk, with that in mind what should I expect regarding tyre wear? Two sets in total? I run the SC3’s normally on the v4. Has anyone been mid March? What was the temperature like. Any other general feedback/tips welcome. cheers
Just finishing a 5 day session today, and made big mistake with only 2 rears. Front is ok but the second rear has given its all. So on a 5 day especially if you are a bit quick (or fat...) 3 rears two fronts and possibly a set of pads although my full race pads are only half worn, not so much braking here. Would think the track temperature would be the same as it has been now, cold and a touch slippy first thing then warming up quickly. Today's temps are low 20s.
Great info, thank you. Did you take your spare tyres within your stillage or did you purchase them through tyre support with FE? I was thinking of a new set of pads so should be ok, I’m looking at the 4 day event. Which hotel are you staying at/ how did you find it? Cheers
Fit everything on the stillage, tyres are expensive here. FE will explain what you can and can't take after brexit but we haven't missed anything. If you look on the FE site you can see the hotels they use.
Almeria isn’t kind to tyres, quite an abrasive track. Use what’s on your bike until you get the hang of the track layout. I doubt you’ll be going banzai on day 1. Think tyre management on day 2 onwards. It’s a great track, enjoy
Almeria is cheap in booking costs. But you’ll spend more on tyres. pretty scary when you add up the costs of euros these days. Mine hover around the 2 grand mark !
Ttx rear and ohlins front inserts. Previous rear did 2.5 days and was toast. This one has done 1.5 days. The line is the join between the compounds, the tyre is sliding then gripping. Traction on 2 as I'm too scared to use 1, any more tc and there was no drive. Can't complain, it gave its all....
We've booked 3 days in June at Almeria. I ran stock SC V3 last time. I may go for a more track orientated version. Like an Sc0 or Sc1. Pilot Cup 2 look good too. I didn't like my sc v3, they didn't feel as confident as they do on the road for me. I liked Mojicar, nice town and the hotel (Puntazo) was superb and even had Guinness.
I would love the ttx, I’m running stock both ends. To be fair the rear does a great job with nice tyre wear but the front is getting a little soft as my confidence grows. Interesting about the TC level, I run tc4 and promised myself not to budge until I feel it limiting the drive. Up to yet it is taking everything I’m asking of it so no point moving but with continuous 4 days on track I might find it’s limit. I see the yellow light come on but still feels it driving? what are you running tyre wise?
I just got back from 3 days in Cartagena, great circuit once you get your head around it! It takes a while to really get it. Weather was good, around 23 degrees, but the sun is low at 5pm, and they force lunch break from 2-4pm which basically makes the days a bit short. I ran Metzeler TD Slicks, I was having moments quite often on the rear but the rear lasted 3 days, and was toast at the end. Before everyone says I was slow, I wasn't.. but the track isn't super knarly on tyres like Almeria was. I would say about the TD Slicks, they last well and provide a decent level of grip but they are definitely a step down in ultimate grip over a V02. Euro days are still booking up fast, despite everyone claiming TD's are dead...
Cheers mate. I was asking as I’m there in March for 3 days on same tyres. GSXR 750 so should be good on one brand new set.
