I really want to do a good tour next year, having never done one into Europe. Sure there are loads of ways to go, but easier to tag on someone else's or do it with experienced people. So anyone planning to or fancy one? Early to mid summer, ideally Thursday to Tuesday or maybe a week at a stretch...do t think my normal riding partners will be up for it so anyone else? Or any routes I could just plagiarise as my own ? ;-)
Sounds like a plan. At the moment there's 4 of us, maybe 5, and we've only just started talking about it, so nothing's planned at all. The guys I go with prefer to book hotels in advance, so I'll be looking at around 300 miles a day to make life easy, and staying well clear of motorways unless necessary. We normally have a day off the bikes midweek too, to have a drinky...
Should point out we're looking at Plymouth/Santander ferry crossing, mostly cos one of the blokes lives in Exeter, and I don't fancy the ride across France.
Mate of mine ( use that term loosely, fooker never showed for spin today, slept it out ,yea right Ray) , member here, anyway, were planning our 3rd trip to Bavaria. Without doubt, the best roads I have ridden., mountain passes great fast twisties, and few cars  We stay in Garmisch, great little town , exceptional food and plenty of watering holes:biggrin::biggrin: We get our bikes transported over by van and fly over, its a no brainer really, saves 4 days of motorway miles and gives us a week of the best biking roads. Fly out in the morning and on bike in the alps by lunchtime. If this appeals to anyone maybe we could sort something out, alternatively as we are a man down next year , 3 of us normally go, we could hook up with a shorter trip to France( not a big fan) or the Ardenne which is great. We would be relatively flexible on dates but last week in July would be prefered dates. Throw in your 2 cents and see where the thread goes
Another option (we don't all have to go the same way) is the Autotrain. Early morning ride to Paris, stick the bike on the train to Biarritz, jump on an easyjet and enjoy a brew while waiting for the train to arrive next morning. Looked last year and it was around £120 for the bike/train (but that might be each way) and £40 return for the flight.
Not sure about WDW, bet its a great event but tbh i like to do my stuff riding not standing chatting...thats what evenings and beer cellars are for
Bradders, how can you ride a bike and never been to Europe on it! But then living 15 minutes from the Channel Tunnel means I can pop to France for a days riding if I fancy
