950 Evotech Engine And Rad Guard Help Please

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Rich 950S, Apr 30, 2024.

  1. Hi All,

Having just bought a 2020 950s I wanted to fit a radiator guard and an engine guard.
Rad guard on no problems but I am a little nervous about removing the exhaust manifold bolts as they look a little delicate and gungy. Is it a case of soaking in WD40, wire brush and go for it?

Also what are are the 3 Torx bolt sizes on the head I need to remove?

Lastly Is there an alternative engine guard to the Evotech quality that doesn't require removing the exhaust bolts?

Any help/advice appreciated for a new Ducati owner.

    Kindest Regards
    Richard

  2. I think it’s important to really soak the studs with plus gas or similar penetrating oil. Also maybe some heat (others can advise)

At least you are asking before you try.
Many people have snapped the studs and then ask!

Might even be worth asking a dealer to fit them.

  3. Just go slow and use lube

  5. I think that wise and cheap insurance. it's not a big job time wise for a dealer.

  6. Douse it repeatedly in a release spray and leave for 24 hours, then give it a try.

If it doesn’t budge you can look at plan b. My 1200 was pretty grimy but the nuts came off surprisingly easy. If yours don’t, you can always engage the services of a mechanic. I wouldn’t pay Ducati prices for this, any decent independent can carry the work out.

  7. Hi All,

Thanks for the replies and advice.
In summary I have soaked in WD40 and cleaned the whole visible system with Dr Downpipe (bronze coloured nuts, lol).

Now call me sad but, as mine is the Glossy Grey, the pipe and system kinda matches and looks good to my eyes.
So for now I'm gonna bottle it and ride.

She's my bike night and weekend show visiting bike as I have a GSX S1000 for weekday scratching, less boys in Blue.
As a year long experiment to see what I ride more I may chop in both next year for a new one and keep the guard for that one.

    Kindest Regards
    Richard

PS how did I end up with a USA flag, lol.
