Anyone know of Hawk or Werx cans for the 848 etc? I found the website 848 08-10 - Ducati and though they they look quite competitive for those of us who cannot afford Termis but want rid of the cats. Would love to know what they sound like as my wife seems to be taking my ST2 out with GPR exhausts and leaving her BMW in the garage. She swears that the ST2 sounds better than my 848.
Thought that I would try the Werx cans and see what they are like, but now I see why no one else has them. I have tried so many times to order on my UK VISA debit card and got no where that I have given up. Businesses must lose loads of money due to the machines that tell us that it cannot process cards.
Have you tried cutting the cats out? I did that to my stock exhaust system and was able to reduce the heat output a significant amount. (dont get me wrong these bikes still love to run hot) Its a pretty simple procedure if you have the tools: - sawzall - drill and drill bits - chisel / flat head screw driver - rivet gun and rivets - rubber mallet (optional but helps a ton) Drill the rivets out off the ends of the exhaust can, disassemble to expose the cat (huge metal cylinder cannot miss it). Cut it off as low as you can to the bottom of the exhaust to remove as much cat material as possible. Then take a chisel/flat head and bust out the remaining cat material. This stuff is tough as hell so be sure to use a fresh blade and take your time, it takes a while to cut that shit out!!! If you search google you will probably find some posts or how-to guides with pictures. One of the easiest mods i have done.
Thanks, I have no problems doing metal work as that was what I have done all of my life. I did not want to mess around with the originals as the end solution will be a compromise and at £320 a set the ones that I have found should sound better. I have managed to order them now by talking the agent through the debit card system over the phone. The problem seems to be that the VISA card system will only recognise addresses in the UK format so does not like my French address format even though that is my billing address. It is a shame that I can't get the UK VAT back and pay French VAT on stuff like this as I understand that many UK citizens are criticising companies for selling in one country and paying tax in another - this just goes to show that it works both ways.
Hi BobT....I was looking at exactly the same for my Evo this morning, would you mind letting me know what they're like please? Did you go Hawk or Werx in the end, Race or Road? Cheers Mark
I went Werx. Having spoken to them on the phone, they make both in house but the difference is the end cap and my wife likes the look of the Werx better, she will see them more than me from her bike! I went road as I want a nice sound but not too loud and I can remove the db killers if I want (there is no MOT for bikes here). As soon as they get here I'll do a before and after video with sound.
I have the Werx race carbon cans on my 848 and they sound awesome. They have been on for over two years and the quality seems very good for less than half the price of termis See avatar Nick
Well I ordered the cans over the phone on Tuesday afternoon and now have them in my grubby mits here in the south of France - that is what I call service. I will get the Gopros out in the morning and do before fitting, fitting and after fitting videos with sound, and blog the lot. The quality seems fine when I look over them with an aircraft engineers eye.
The cans were fitted this morning, a 10 minute job, and sound great! I made a video of the old cans and the Werx cans with sound and will post it on my blog with some pictures as soon as I have processed them. I must say that I am very happy with the cans.
Nice sound, not my cup of tea looks wise but they do look nicely built. I had Arrows on mine that were also a bit different to the 'normal' termignoni stuff
Are those flames shooting out of the back or just the way the light is hitting the smoke? They look great!
That's brilliant BobT....thanks for doing that! Have you run them without the DB killer? Just wondering how she sounded and ran if you have?
Not yet Mark. It has done nothing but rain since I fitted them and the dirt track from my house to a road is about half a mile long and just mud at the moment! With the DB killer they are louder than standard but, as you can hear, are a much deeper sound, so I shall probably only take them out for a brief test but run with them in normally. It will be interesting to see what difference they make to the economy of the bike, the fuel light comes on at about 185 kms at the moment. I know that when I removed the cats from the pair of BMW R1100S's that we owned a few years ago, the sound improved as did the mid range power and the economy by about 10%.
Sounds pretty sweet to me and just about the sound I want! Loud enough to let dozy drivers know I'm coming but not alert 5 0 and wind them into action
Just got out from a long ride in the sunshine (19c here). Love the cans more every time I ride it. The noise is just great. Had the wife on the ST2 behind me with a Gopro attached so we might have some pictures and videos. I did have to ride slowly for her to keep up, but when she was close she commented over the intercom on how good the 848 sounds from behind.
