Exhaust Cleaner

  1. I have given my Multi a really good clean over the winter from front to back & it's looking like new again. Was dissapointed to see the front down pipe was very stained & there were even signs of early corrosion so looked around for something to clean it with & found this:

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

This stuff is brilliant. Removed the down pipe, brushed some of it on, left for about 15mins & then washed off. Gave it a quick buff with a wire brush wheel on an electric drill & it looks better than it did when it was new.

Though I would share incase anyone else wanted to do.

  2. Antil,

You inspired me to clean mine! I have some Hein Gerricke stainless steel exhaust cleaning spray, similar stuff, squirt on then spray off after 5 mins and it takes all the discolouration away. Mine was a lazy clean though, pipe left on.

  3. I hope you were careful Ian and gave the bike a thorough rinse after?........the HG Exhaust Cleaner is brilliant stuff but is acid based and will damage paint and other coated surfaces, eat aluminium, even damage chrome.....

  4. Thanks Andy.

I must admit I was unaware that it could be damaging to other metals but it did get a good spray wash afterwards so hopefully no unexpected cleaning.....

  5. You should try polishing it!

  6. I'm sure you'll be fine Ian....just worth being aware of the potential for disaster! :)

Bob......you posted elsewhere re use of paraffin for chain cleaning...........it's also good for lifting tar spots ;-) (paraffin + rag + toothbrush;-)

Looking forward to the 'how to polish your headers' article Bob :p ..........a before photo?

  7. Thanks for the tip Andy!;)

  8. Wow Bob....that looks like you used a lot of elbow grease to get it that shiny....I feel a weekend project coming on!

  9. C'mon Bob spill the beans........products used, method/techniques, on or off the bike etc ;-)

  10. I got a polishing set off eBay - search for 'metal polishing supplies' - kit I got came with a mandrill, 3 polishing mops and different waxes - just have to be careful the drill doesn't shift about too much and get caught on the bike - left the exhaust on the bike, might have been easier off but you'd need a vice or similar

btw the polishing mops I got were either 3 or 4 inches in diameter - I remember trying to find the smallest I could

  11. Thanks Bob......as I'm still unable to ride not much excuse for not having a go myself :D

  12. This bastard thread has cost me about 7 hrs and lots of sweat in the last few days, I had to take my headers off to make some link pipes, so I thought, what the hell, while they're off I'll give them a polish, I mean, how hard can it be? Well, bloody hard when they're as caked with crap as mine were! Still now they're done they look all "spangly and purdy" so job done :upyeah:

  13. lol..........post some pics ;-)
...decat? Tell us more, sound interesting, I know there's lots of info on the off the shelf solutions (Arrow, Leo Vice, MIVV) but I don't think I've seen a DIY job.....photos and details please :D

  14. I bought a spaghetti system with carbon cans, was supposed to fit early AND later SS's, it didn't :frown:, so I'm fitting the cans and using the standard headers, and making my own link pipes :upyeah:. I will try to get photo's when the job is done, but will have to wait until my son gets home as I am a complete computer numpty .
