Exhaust Heat Shield Insulating Washers

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Cream_Revenge, Feb 2, 2015.

  1. Hey guys

How many of these should there be on each bolt? And where could I get more?

Haynes does not state how many there should be. I took 1 large off each bolt but the bottom bolt also had about 3 smaller ones on the outside of the shield. They are really mankey and brittle

EBay doesn't seem to have any.

  2. I use fibre washers, one on each side of the heatshield - they last fairly well and are dirt cheap on ebay.

  3. I would steer well clear of anything with Silverline Branding - it is truly shit stuff.

  4. Aint that the truth!!!!

  5. Try a local car spares shop where they sell them individually. I use one each side of the shield although I use the non standard 998\SPS style on all my bikes and not the stock square type as per 748's etc. I am not sure they are that necessary as I use alloy spacers to get mine to mostly fit correctly and I can't say it has made much difference fitting the fibre washers that I can see.

  6. You can still get them from Ducati and they are not expensive. Try Moto Rapido. There should be two on the outside of the guard and one underneath iirc

  7. I'm surprised how much stock Ducati have, or can obtain for older bikes. I'm putting a large list of things together for my '02 748s as part of a project and so much is available from Ducati and at very reasonable prices.

Get the part numbers from a spares cataloge and call the likes of JHP, MR or DG - always very helpful people.

  8. Who are DG?

  12. Yip, Ducati Glasgow.

If calling, ask for Harry - years of working with Ducati and a great depth of knowledge. Prone to some banter too ;-)

  14. I was very impressed with Italia Moto. I managed to snap one of the chocolate bolts that hold the channel for the brake pipe to the chain guard / hugger on my 748 and they gave me two nice new shiny ones for the grand total of less than 70p.

I know "yeah, well they're just bolts" but my experience of other manufacturers has been that you pay over the odds for daft bits. I wanted the right bolts in there and they sorted me out in just a few minutes. Really impressed.
