Exhaust Removal

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by rivets, Feb 8, 2014.

  1. Hi. Trying to remove my standard exhaust. All fixings undone, three nuts removed on front header but cannot move front pipe off the studs and so can't drop cat out. I presume the joint for the front is supposed to slide apart but it's not budging, rear joint is loose. Have just WD40'd the joint. Any pearls of wisdom would've helpful, it's so bloody close to coming off, not sure what else to try. Cheers, rivets.

  2. Hammer and wood

  3. Lol. Tried that too, being a bit of a wooss I think!

  4. Took a dose of "man-up" (and WD40 worked its magic) and it's off. QD's ready to go on.

  5. I assume the rear is undone and or loose?
    It can be real tight.
Hammer and wood is good, but be sympathetic to the casting and studs.
Make sure you bash it slightly forward, not just down.
I did mine last year and I remember a few issues at the front.
Its a lot easier if the bike is on stand or up on a bench.

  6. QD's on, bit of a wriggle to get things to line up, fired it up, OMG, what a fabulous noise! Just the panels to go back on now.
    Thanks for all the input

  7. You will love the QD, best exhaust for the multi IMHO [IMG]

  8. Boomer. I have one little issue, no matter what I do I can't align the bolt that goes into the frame under the right foot peg. It's over half a hole out. System feels rock solid but I'm not too happy leaving it out. Was yours easy to align? Guess I'll have to apply a file and fit a big washer!

  9. Don't remember having a problem rivets, mine lined up ok, I remember it was a bit tight getting a spanner in to tighten it up correctly, but all ok once tightened up

  10. Try fitting it with everything loose.
Mine is also very tight , so I fit it all loose then tighten the bracket bolts, and finally do up the can pinch clamps.

  11. Cheers John, a new day with renewed patience paid off. All sorted now. Love the new rumble, sounds fantastic. Took a quick blast today and couldn't stop grinning all the way!
