Exhaust touching Bellypan?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Wellsy, Dec 11, 2012.

  1. Hi guys, picked up my Multi yesterday and absolutely loving it, but just wanted to check something with a few of you.

While cleaning and polishing I noticed that the Bellypan (not the side plates) is actually touching the exhaust on the right side. I know this isn't normal, but is it common as this surely will damage something over time.

Has anyone else had to alter anything to make things fit a bit better and give a proper clearance.

    Cheers

  2. Hi, that doesn't sound right and I haven't heard of it before. I have just checked mine and there is a clear gap all around the cut-out in the belly pan - a little less on the right but still 4-5mm. Have you got a standard exhaust or has it been off to fit something else? Or perhaps the belly pan has taken a knock or been incorrectly fitted?

  3. Prob a small inner insert spacer missing from a service..take the fixing screws out and make sure you see a collar through rubber mount in each one..

Will be something silly and easy put right

  4. Ta for the replies, it's the standard exhaust system, I've checked all the fixings and their all present and correct. So what I've done is slightly bend out the mount on the left hand (front) side of the Bellypan. This has the effect of moving the pan over to the right and now gives around 4-5mm clearance (similar to yours DenH).

There was no sign of any knocks etc on the Bellypan , and all seems spot on now... Phew! :upyeah:

If I hadn't spotted it I reckon it would have been an expensive bill somewhere down the line. Just goes to prove it's worth spending time cleaning your bike in the evening and not watching soaps on the idiot lantern with the missus!
