extremely cheap 6k mile service?

  1. Hello,

today i went to my local motorcycle garage, and asked them about the Ducati 749 6k mile service and they quoted me 100 quid?????? is that even possible? i asked him what they will do, and he said, new belts, new oil and oil filter and check the whole bike over.

    any ideas?

  2. I'd say go for it and ask for the old belts back, for your collection!!

I have just pulled fairings, tank etc off to try and make my first service as cheap as possible. I have been told the belts alone are $187.00 NZ EACH....so i will drop bike to them as stripped and ready for the main work as possible.

But my bike (new to me) just arrived from out of town with 44,000 km's on the clock so I want to get a full valve clearance check, new belts etc...oil and filter I will do myself.

  3. well, what i was planning on doing was, Do the oil and oil filter myself. and let the garage do the belts, they said they will charge me 50 pounds for that. and i will ask for the old belt back as well. see how it goes.

also, im needing to change my front tyre.... can i use a front paddock stand to raise the front and remove the wheel? or do i need both front AND rear paddock stands? because i have the grey swingarm and it doesnt have bobbins.

  4. A pair of genuine belts cost more than £100

Yes, you need both stands. A 916 stand will fit the rear spindle.

  5. Before I had Ducati's I used the same bike mechanic for 20 years. He absolutely refused to even touch my 749bip or my r.

  6. a 916 rear paddock is a single sided stand... can you provide me with a link to a rear paddock which will fit my grey swingrm?

  7. A 916 stand will go in on one side of the 749 spindle. Ok to hold the bike up but not to change back wheel

  8. hmm i see.. i wonder if my honda vfr 400 nc30 paddock stand will do the job.. since it was also a single sided swingarm bike

  9. Avoid - what are they using?

Ok, we could debate pattern belts and their financial edge but 100 quid?

Na, you tend to get what you pay for.

  10. I could see that for labour only, but supplying the parts. That has to be impossible.

  11. Not knowing exactly what's involved is probably not a good sign?

Although if he's prepared to learn on your bike for cheap, and you're happy with that then it could be a good arrangement. Always handy to have a local mechanic...
