False Neutral

  1. How's it going lads?
In the last couple of weeks I've started to get a false neutral between 5th & 6th gear on the Monster.
Anyone any ideas what's causing it or if it's something that I need to be getting looked at?

    Thanks in advance! :upyeah:

  2. my 848 always did that until I repositioned the gear level.
that could be it or worse case would be bent selector fork.

  3. Lol I posted the same thing phantom.... Just bleed/fresh fluid and see how it goes , if it's jumping out under load then get it in!!!!

  4. Not sure what you mean man.
If it's not going into gear, get it to the mechanic?

  5. no if you are riding and it jumps into neutral by itself rather
than hitting a faulse neutral between gear changes.

  6. No, it's just when I'm changing from 5th to 6th. I'm tipping along nicely, go to shift between 5th & 6th gear, clutch, toe-up, release clutch and instead of getting 6th gear, I'm red-lining and have to stab the selector again. Really annoying...

  7. It's quite common in my experience, my D16 does it sometimes, although quite often it's down to me being a bit lazy with the shift. 5th to 6th, 'cos it's at the end of the throw seems to need a more positive stab. Wearing different boots/shoes can sometimes account for it. If it remains rare, no probs, if it gets more and more common, get it checked out.

  8. well as said mine does the same, more than any other bike
I have owned but lowering the angle of the gear selector
    made all the difference.

  9. Fair enough - cheers lads. Might try lowering the selector phantom...

  10. It's extremely common, but in my experience it has usually been between 4th and 5th.

My ST4s does exactly the same thing.

  11. My SS did it - lowered the gear lever which helped, still there though...

  12. So did my SS apart from when I needed to put it in neutral wouldn't work then!!!

  13. I've found loose chain tension has an affect as well.

  14. Yup, my 1198 did the very same thing, so it went in and had the system flushed through with fresh oil, still does it every now and again, but that could be that im lazy and not giving it enough toe!!! bit like my dancing.........
