First turn of the key this year, fan has come on and is staying on. Haven’t started the bike yet. Anyone had this before? I’m guessing to check fan relay and grounds.
Let’s hope that sorts it. Fans ‘permanently on’ with the IAW59M ECU can be an indication of a problem with the ECU itself. Usually caused by polarity inversion. If still causing problems and you have the cables for JPDiag, then connect the Fiat adaptor to the diagnostic port and earth the black crocodile lead. If this stops the fans then you can tap in to what would be the middle lead of the 3 way diagnostic plug and run a wire to earth. Hopefully that sorts the problem if your previous route does not.
Thanks. What would cause a polarity inversion? Battery has been on an optimate all winter as it does every winter with the same optimate harness to that’s been connected to it for years.
The usual cause of polarity inversions are connecting the battery in reverse or connecting the fly leads on a Fiat Adaptor in reverse. Ducati John had a bike displaying similar symptoms to yours for no apparent reason. Connecting the Fiat adaptor stopped the fans and when removed the fault was cleared. The cause was never identified. Let’s hope it is just a stuck relay after wintering.
The bad news is I spent some time filing earth contacts, checking relays etc for that to have absolutely no effect on the fan problem. I thought I'd fire it up anyway, which it did on the button. The good news is that seems to have reset whatever caused it to have a hiss. All working perfectly again. Italian girls being fickle as usual.
