Fancy a days bank holiday just to go biking - naturally in the British summer time - then start lobbying- I feel an (ill-worded) e-petition might be in order.... If Japan can have a mountain bank holiday - then why not!!! Japan to celebrate new public holiday: Mountain Day Japan has created its 16th annual national holiday, to celebrate its national beauty and help ease its citizens' stress levels From 11 August 2016, Japan will celebrate a new public holiday – Mountain Day – the 16th of its annual days off. Parliament granted the national holiday in response to lobbying from the Japanese Alpine Club, and other related groups, who aim to promote “opportunities to get familiar with mountains and appreciate blessings from mountains”. Japan is known for its hard-working population; according to a government survey, in 2013 Japanese workers took off just 8.6 days of personal holiday time – less than half the average official entitlement. It is hoped that the new public holiday will encourage workers to unwind in the mountainous areas that cover almost 70% of the country. The list of Japan's existing public holidays includes Greenery Day (4 May), Ocean Day (21 July), Health and Sports Day (13 October), and Children's Day (5 May). With 16 public holidays, Japan has the highest number of annual days off among G8 countries, double the number of bank holidays in the UK.
except you get more days bank holiday than England, wales etc.... anyway, you could always tell someone who cares....
