I'm thinking about buying a "Fenda Extenda" (basically a piece of expensive plastic that fixes to the back edge of the front mudguard) to reduce the amount of crud that gets thrown up onto my radiator, engine and downpipe. Does anyone have experience (good or bad) or comments suggestions they would like to share? Thanks Simon Hallam MTS 1200S
I've got one on my Multistrada 1000. Fairly simple to fit, unless your mudguard bolts have rounded off when getting the mudguard off. Personally I didn't fancy having the self tapping screws pointing towards the tyre, so I put a bit of heatshrink on the top of them so I didn't get scratched. Cheap and effective.
I have the carbon fibre one and it's been on for about 18 months. Only problem is that the front mudguard has so much play in it's mounting that it has rubbed against the tyre a few times and is now looking a bit tired. I got it off ebay and just silicon glued it on, held with tape while it dried. I will probably get another one soon.
I found an old visor, warmed it to the right curve, primed and painted it.........riveted it on..... AL.
Have fitted them on my last bike, as multi is prety exposed at front fitted one to save crap hitting front cyl, works to a point, but have also just fitted one of the cyl guards as well.
Fitted them to all my bikes that will take them especially both my Previous MTS12's plus an engine guard mounted to the front cylinder head...keeps all the crud off, definetly recommend them for the MTS12.
+1 for the black plastic fender extender - mine was from Pyramid Plastics. But is has rubbed against the tyre because of movement of the mudguard. I also have a cylinder head guard.
I fitted one to my last bike and used pop rivets rather than the self tappers, it worked really well. Need to get one for the Monster now!
I had a CF one, fitted to the OEM black plastic extender, fixed on with silicone. Looked great but as Kirky said, there is that much free play in the mudguard, the CF add on destroyed it's bottom edge against the tyre and ended up looking tat, so I recently binned it. If you look at my post on this thread http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/givi-trk46n-topbox-7925/ you can make it out.
Fitted them to lots of bikes and recommend them.Have glued them in the past with araldite but vibrates loose after a few years so now screw them on with the self tappers, having filed the points down flat after making the holes first.
I've used them on a few bikes, and can only sing their praises. Expensive at £17-ish for what they are. Like other say, you can make them out of old visors, rubber car mats etc, depends how fussy you are on looks. I rivet mine on instead of screws. They do make alot of difference, you never see used ones on eBay because people never take them off really, fit once and forget modification.
Try a fenda stratocaster ........completely useless for keeping debris from you cylinder head but at least you can play a tune whilst riding " purple haze all in my brain twanng twanng .. Secuse me while I kiss the sky " twaaaanggggg twwwwinngg twangg
