848 Few Questions (modifications)

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Deano84, Jan 1, 2016.

  1. Got a few things left I want to do to my 848 and was just after other people's opinions on upgrades, brands and where from etc.

Things I want to do are bin the exhaust valve, seen the bolt on part on eBay which I think leaves everything on the bike but stops its function but I also see some have a plug in box that allows the removal of it all? Which is better and where is best to get one?

Secondly I fancy some nice levers for it as mine look a little tired, I'd only really heard of pazzo and Titax before but see a lot more on offer now, I want full length and foldable. Again any particular brand to avoid or consider would be good.

I also want to change the belly pan to a carbon fibre one but don't fancy the ducati performance price tag if they do one! Good fit is the most important thing here I see conquest carbon and full six do one has anyone had either?

And lastly does anyone know a good wheel paint/powdercoat place the ones near me only do one shade of gold and it's very dull. Or does anyone know if wheels can be anodized? I know aftermarket ones are but not sure on the process.

    Any help much apreciated

  2. Austin racing levers are good

  3. Levers ... i have ASV ... superb and they fold back fully, also i think because of it they have a life time guarantee.
Exhaust valve. .. if you put race slip ons on and flash the ecu, i think it no longer requires the valve so you can remove it completely without added gimicks ... others might confirm this for sure though

  4. Thanks guys I'll check them both out!
It's got termis but only cans and ecu not a full system

  5. Mine has cans only, i flashed the ecu with a map for race cans, that map disables the valve and 02 sensors, for now though i have left all in place .. runs fine

  6. I removed the valve on mine with the the little plug in box. I figured that it look neater without that valve and the cables to the butterfly.
First mod has to be a 14 tooth front sprocket, made a huge difference to the low speed rideablility and makes it possible to get it into top gear below 130 kmh (80 mph).
Have a look at my blog and you will see pictures of some of the mods that I have done in the 6 months that I have owned the 848.

  7. Not sure why a carbon fairing lower would make any difference though. Mine is black as standard, so looks the same as carbon to anyone who might be laying in the road as I pass, and if I changed it to carbon then the weight saved would be the same as about a quarter of a litre of fuel so I will just put less petrol in.

  8. I've already got a 14t front to go on, the carbon is just for looks to be fair just like the other little bits I've fitted. I'll have a look at your blog though thanks.

  9. When you own an 848 you will find that just about every member of the general public will stop and look at it when it is parked. It is a piece of art as it is. No one will know the difference between a black lower fairing or a carbon one.
My wife and I are both Ducati fans who would have a good look at any Ducati that was parked anywhere we happen to be, but I'll bet you that neither of us would even notice if the lowers were carbon or not.

  10. I couldnt give a monkeys if people notice the difference :tearsofjoy: I like the look of it and that's all that matters seeing as it's mine but I kind of get what your saying.

  11. The Carbon fibre belly pan deos look good and really stands out especially against red fairings. Also looked good on my white 848. They are expensive but most upgrades for these bikes are. If you can find one, try to get the 1 piece jobby as taking them off and refitting is miles easier.
For the exhaust valve, just have the ECU reflashed and remove the valve and cables.
My 848 came with Titax shorties fitted. Couldn't wait to get them replaced with longer ones. I went with the evo tech foldable ones and they were perfect!
