Hi , I recently brought a lovely 748 described in the ad as all carbon panels apart from front fairing and tank. . Am I right in thinking these are just fibreglass race fairings painted to look like carbon? It is a lovely bike and come with all original parts from new just feel I have been missold if that’s the case. also I managed to crack the lower fairing loading it off the van which has started to spread so any ideas where to get this fixed and sprayed would be great . Don’t mind posting it out to be repaired.
They are mix. One layer of carbon on the outside for looks and the rest of the panel is fibreglass. They look like very poor quality too.
As long as you have the original stuff and you didn't pay extra for the fake carbon you've done alright.
The best test is weighing. Even if you do not have comparison samples of carbon and fibre, you just know that carbon is ridiculously light. It is also wafer thin and tends to crack with very sharp edges.
Reinforcing one if the strongest materials in the world with something weaker isn't exactly what you do. It's done to sell cheap "carbon" parts. If it's the look you're after, by all means. If you re after light and strong your pi...ing in the wind. If the chap was sold this bike with all carbon fairings I'd say he's been had. Perhaps not even deliberately.
MS Productions reinforced their carbon seat units for non race use with fibreglass. It cost too much to reinforce with carbon fibre.
Just going over the bike , have now put the original fairings on which I think look better. Just looking at the carbon fibre belly pan which was fitted, it has a Ducati logo embossed in it. Is this a genuine ducati part? I may be getting rid of this depending on my findings lol .
