848 Filter Screen Cover Leaking Oil... Oh No...

  1. Well yesterday I was doing some work on the bike and noticed I had an oil leak on the square filter cover for the oil screen. I tweaked up the bolts and covered the seam with gasket, ran the bike to temp and it was all good.

Run on a few hours later in life etc and I took some shit on TDR forum for my 'fix' with the thoughts that a temp fix simply won't be acceptable...

Then some random bullshit with basically me trying to kill them LOL... but it made me think it was better to strip it down and fix it fully.

The reason I didn't do this first is because tomorrow morning the bike is off to Swindon to go to Portimao.. so I didn't want to risk pulling it apart and messing something up putting back together... but sod it... I did it.

Stripped all down, cleaned up the surfaced, re-gasketed it as per Ducati's diagrams from user manual and fired it up... oil went EVERYWHERE.... Nah, just kidding :) Oil at the moment didn't go anywhere or everywhere, it seems to have hopefully been a good fix, a good job and the sump and all the bike is dry and content...

I'm scared to link any pics now ! But there's the before/during and the after...

I've once again run it up to temp and apart from a drip where I was filling it back up with oil (yes I did remember to fill it before running) my blue roll underneath the bike is completely clear of all fluids.

I'll still be taking my gasket, still be taking all my tools LOL... but you can all sleep easy tonight in the knowledge that if I do kill you, it wasn't through lack of trying not too :)

  2. Worst part about those things is the utter crap oem 'bolts'

  3. Changed mine to stainless cap heads. M6 x 16mm I think. The O rings took nearly a week to turn up at the dealers.
