950 Finally Got My Bike Today

  1. Yes, after 3 very long weeks I finally picked up my 2018 950 today. First impressions after just an hours ride, I now understand why there have been so many posts about the seat and screen. The seat is very hard and the screen is very noisy. Both fixable. I also understand why there has been so many posts about the gearbox. I’ve owned 4 Ducati’s in the past 15 years (3 monsters and a Scrambler) and I can honestly say the Multi has the worst clutch and gearbox of any of them. In fact, worse than any bike I’ve ever ridden. Finally zero heat from the grips despite them being set on high. Still I will persevere and get used to them because I love this bike and expect to keep it for a long time. FCF6CA61-9E97-4F96-918A-417C36DF44D5.jpeg 839A5D7C-B0AA-4980-AD21-7F57262CBF0D.jpeg

  2. Lovely, I recommend getting the side-stand enlarging device.

  3. Good idea. I had one on my last bike and found it very useful.

  4. I think you’ll find heated grips were an optional extra with the touring pack, the lack of panniers and centre stand in your pics suggests you don’t have that option?

    Enjoy all the same though.

  5. Pikes peak screen, Touratech comfort seat and heated gloves will solve all your problems. Thank me later!

  6. It was advertised by the dealer as having Ducati heated grips
    .

  7. If it was a Ducati dealer then take it in and ask them to activate them? I’d like to see them try.
If it’s like the MV I had the display shows them and you can even turn them on but without the actual grips fitted it makes sod all difference, like it’s mocking you got being too tight to choose the option at purchase!

If you go to the configuration option on Ducati’s website, heated grips are an optional extra, usually bundled as part of the touring pack which also includes panniers and a centre stand for a grand, stand alone they are £263. I don’t think they are even standard on the S model?

  8. Yes you are right but the grips can be bought separately. I did buy from a Ducati dealer, who sold the bike new to the previous owner, and they fitted the grips.

  9. I just read your post again and i now realise you are aware it's possible to buy the grips separately.

  10. Hopefully they can get them working then?

  11. Certainly, on my 2016 1200S you can tell the grips are working, enough heat, although i understand they arent the best out there.

  12. Some people are saying the grips are very hot but others say they are crap. Different manufacturers maybe?

  13. As a previous 950 owner, the heating element on the heated grips were weak & very prone to faults, as said above take back to the dealer you purchased from for fix

  14. I took the bike out for another ride today and, WOW, what a bike. I have got used to the clutch and gearbox already and only stalled it once and that was the first junction. There were no false naturals due to clutch less changes up from 3rd to 4th to 5th to 6th and positive changes down.

And the heated grips were working, very well, I had to turn them down to medium! I think when the dealer showed me how to activate them he didn’t press the indicator button to confirm the choice. Anyhow, they are good and I think they should be standard equipment on all bikes.

One other thing I discovered today, this bike can really move when you open it up. I am going to have lots of fun with this bike.

  15. Glad you sorted your heated grips, that’s the old ‘it works better when it’s switched on’ problem.

  16. Yes, I guess that’s true. The problem for a new Multi rider is that the dash is showing the heat setting, low medium or high and that looks to a new rider that they are on, especially if he’s asked to dealer to put them on high. What I didn’t realise is that there is a small symbol to the left showing that they are actually switched on. Oh well, it will all be second nature soon!
