First Ducati, 05 999. One ride and hooked!!

  1. Hi, I bought a 999 when I took my Honda in for a service, expensive service!! Delivered on Friday and ridden all day yesterday. An effortless and awesome bike, totally loving my 999. Thanks to the previous owner (Wales) for its immaculate condition and fsh. What mods do folk recommend?

  2. As a Sport Classic rider I can't comment on mods for a 999, but I'm sure many others will agree that the very best thing you can do with a Ducati is to keep enjoying riding the bike. Where in Nottingham are you based?

  3. Woodborough

  4. You can spend as much time and money on it as you feel inclined. As i am cash and time poor I have settled for a few carbon baubles, anodised pegs, Pazzos and a black screen. The thing goes as fast as I need it to and handles about as well as i need it too as well, really. So it's just down to cosmetic fun. Best thing to buy for it is a tail bag so you can actually go somewhere on it.

  5. Forget the bolt on bling for the moment, spend a little money.on having the suspension set up and you will have one sweet handling bike. And an R1 throttle tube is a must

  6. R1 throttle tube? How and where and what would I need?

  7. I put higher bars on mine (cyclecat,no longer available). Theres a mod to reverse the original bars that has the same effect.

  8. I'm in Nuthall. Quite often enjoy a leisurely run out to Southwell/Newark via Linby, Oxton.

  9. I recommend the R1 throttle mod.
I was worried that I was going to spit myself off through misuse of the revised throttle action but that doesn't happen. The only difference is when you are opening the throttle wide, you can now do this in one bite, so to speak - the original throttle is nearly impossible (for me) to open wide with taking a "second grip" on it.
The mod is safe and very functional, in my view.

Another good mod - increase the size of rear sprocket to, say, 40T whilst keeping the original 15T front sprocket. You'll need a long chain. This places the bike's rev-range where it's perfect for 30mph and 40 mph roads, plus better acceleration. You may lose top-end but who really needs that? Fuel economy does not seemed to be harmed, either. Some folks prefer to use a 14t front sprocket and leave the rear as it is. You get to keep the standard chain length but I personally don't like that version of re-gearing. Your choice! Watch out though, the re-gearing mod will spit you off if you forget you have it -as nearly happened to me three times at Cadwell last year! Heh.

  10. Where's your avatar photo taken, Loz? Looks like a very scenic track.

  11. Looks like Cadwell to me

  12. Indeed, Cadwell. Out of the bus stop on the way to The Mountain. if I recall it correctly

I love Cadwell Park. Yes, I would marry it.

    It's a fantastic camera angle.
    :upyeah:

  13. Except that the Bus Stop is at Mallory Park......

  14. I realise that The Bus Stop is at Mallory but we (the group I used to ride with) always referred to the little chicane that slows you down after Mansfield and before The Mountain as "a bus stop". Hence my lack of capitalisation of "Bus Stop" in my original post.

Does the little chicane after Mansfield have a proper name?

  15. I think the locals call it Worksop.....
