First real run out of the year.

  1. After buying a 1098 late last year I finally managed a good run out and got some heat in the tyres.
Friday night I plugged the optimate charger in and after an hour or so it indicated a charged good battery. Saturday morning I took her outside, bike is kept in the house. After the third press of the starter and promising firing noises the starter then only whizzed around a little and the bike would not start. I plugged the optimate in again and left it for an hour until it again indicated a good charged battery. This time it started and then was fine all day on the ride. Is this usual or should i be looking at a new battery, maybe lithium ion? I understand the ducati twins require a good kick from the battery to start up.

  2. Keep the optimate on it all the time, then see how it goes.

  3. Probably just a bit low on amps. Ride should have sorted it out.

  4. Ok thanks dudes, it was fine like you say once it was ridden a while. I was just concerned the battery may have been on the way out.

  5. Keep it on trickle charge (when not riding:wink:) the cold starting amps are barely adequate for these big arsed twins IMHO.
