Did my test 28yrs ago! Hadnt ridden a bike since, until this week.) Did a refresher course this week - turns out “it’s just like riding a bike” is true!), so since it was dry and sunny here, I decided to take the 748 out for a short spin. Have to say I was a bit apprehensive but it was great! When I bought the Ducati a couple of months ago, my main reason was just for the sheer pleasure of owning it, and looking at it. But after discovering the low cost of insurance, the temptation was too great. Kind of had in my head that this was going to be a fire breathing dragon of a bike that would rip my face off!…..but was pleasantly surprised how smooth it all was. Feel very excited to own and ride a Ducati. Looking forward to many more rides.
It looks amazing. I really wanted one a while back…but opted for the 848 (reliability)…now I want one again!
I had the pleasure of riding a 748, which belonged to a good friend, back in 2000, and you say it was lovely bike to ride, . Enjoy and I hope you have plenty of happy miles on it.
wow that's a baptism of fire! it's a lovely powered engine, but physically and in terms of weight of the controls it's pretty hard core. If you are new too it, then the only thing I'd be careful of is the engine braking on these twins on wet roads, especially for a new rider, just go easy.
Nice, my first bike after getting my license was a 748! Great bike to learn on in my opinion. It's going to punish you for making mistakes, so as others have said, take it slowly and get comfortable. Mine was a 748E in yellow by the way. Loved that little bumble bee
Thanks all for the kind words. (Sorry I haven’t been back sooner). Yeah probably not the most sensible purchase I’ve ever made, but hey life’s too short to ride shit bikes right! Ive had, and am continuing to have, some refresher lessons which I must say have been great. I really just bumble about on it in the dry, so no boy racing here!! Hopefully it’ll all work out. Or maybe I should get Ducati scrambler as well, for days when I need a little more sensible in my life! @southlondonCBR insurance was £200
Nothing wrong with riding about in the dry my friend. I have had bikes for years and make no apology for avoiding wet weather riding like the Plague. Keep up the good work.
did exactly the same, not had a bike for 25years and got 748 for garage and too look at ,and cheap insurance and ease of riding has made me ride again at 65years LOL.
