899 First Ride!

  1. Well today I went for my first ride on the 899, at first it was very strange leaning over to get to the handlebars and the high foot rests after many years riding upright bikes I have not driven one like this since my 03 R6 back then. First thing I noticed that the previous owner must have been a contortionist with the riding position mainly the rear brake it was not at an easy reach so will need adjusting asap. But my god it came fitted with a Termi exhaust as well as the original supplied it's had the baffles removed on the Termi's and it's just too load for me. I suffer with tinnitus so my hearing is sometimes sensitive to loud noises and this is LOUD, I must admit the baffles were removed when I got it so there definitely going back in, in fact I rode home and put the bike away as it was unbearable to ride before anybody says it I have the full custom made earplugs that are made at the shows but the resonating of the exhaust was too loud. So I will be fitting the baffles back in tomorrow and try that but do you 899 termi guys think it will not make much difference or else the answer may be fit the original back on.
What I did like was the super handling of the machine and I'm sure when I have tweaked the suspension it should get even better the speed is effortless and at first it was strange to not pull the clutch in on upshifts but blimey what a fantastic bike.

  2. The 899 is a loud bike, with or without baffles in your Termi's and even with the standard cans. Out of those three options, the Termi's with baffles will make the least noise, but it is far from being quiet even then.

Glad you're enjoying the bike though :upyeah:

  3. how the hell does it pass with the Euro standards with the original exhaust

  4. Originals on mine, custom earplugs on any longish ride, the benefit being that my missus knows exactly when to put the kettle on as she can here me miles Before I get home

  5. I have standard cans and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are even louder than the termis

  6. I think mine is quieter with the termi's and baffles than a standard bike, also without baffles it's just basey, rather than much louder.

Btw, I think the most noise is the engine, it's a really noisy engine, hence why it's had lots of redesign for Euro 4 as that measures noise from the centre of the bike

  7. Standard cans are louder and always seem to fail noise test at 102 dB so stick with the termi's, on the 899 you get a lot of engine noise and induction sound
personally after coming off and 848 Evo with full termi's I find my 899 really quiet and don't have to wear a plugs anymore
