I’m picking up my third Multi 1260S on Wednesday. I’m going into the lakes for a long weekend Thursday. Reckon I’ll rack up 650 miles on that trip, plus 180 round trip to dealer and back. So around 850 miles. My dealer said that’s fine and won’t affect the warranty and that during lockdown Ducati extended service intervals anyway. Anyone done that many miles pre 1st service without issue? Cheers peeps.
Yes that’s very common and not a problem. It’s more important that the run-in mileage is at varied speeds, across the gears and within rev range (although some dispute the latter). The official recommendation is not to include lengthy motorway constant speeds (although gear changes and accelerations to overtake can make that ok) and/or any labouring of the engine, particularly up hills.
Sorry no, grammar error. It should of read "third Multi, 1260S......." But no, had a 1200 DVT 2015, upgraded to 1260 S in 2018 and then because of the COVID bollocks had too much time on my hands so started to look at bikes and wanting to change for the sake of doing summat! I used to have a BMNW K1600GT. I got rid of it because it was too heavy to lump around. So, I decides to sell my 2018 bike and bought a new K1600GT Sport. I've had it two months but I'm missing the character and the pace of the multi so the Beemer is becoming a has been. I've lost a shit load of money on it that I can ill afford but I do think COVID has made me irrational . I was tempted to wait for the V4 version but I'm thinking even that might lack the character of the current model and looking at threads on here, it's not a given right now that it will be road focused. Obviously my trip was planned before the bike change so that's my concern; not about the mileage but the warrantly should anything develop down the line. Don't want a "they are saying you've broke the terms of the warranty" for the sake of 300 miles or so.
I was late getting my first service because of the lockdown. By the time it arrived at the dealer I'd done about 900 miles. It wasn't a problem, other than the frustration of an extended running-in period.
Just don‘t take it over Hardknott pass... That is unless you like slipping the clutch in 1st gear in urban mode whilst the rear spins (last week!) The picture was taken between passes
My story is similar, I called the dealer and he advised there would be no problems. Mine was serviced at 850 miles. Ally
My first service was before the service indicator came on (approx. 950 km / 590 mile). I had to go to the service again to turn off the indicator. Cannot be done proactively.
Had mine done last week at around the 800 mark, when I initially asked dealer said could be up to the 1000 but would prefer it before.and it is indeed painful to run in trying to keep revs down and varied, only another 6-7 hundred then full revs officially allowed
Thanks a lot guys, I feel much more relaxed about the situation. Weather looking good this weekend and honestly the bike will be fun even at low revs!
No it's the new Zumo XT (LONG thread about it here https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/new-satnav.77235/)
Picked mine up last Thursday, already at 600km, I need to call the dealer to book it in for next weekend, I'm trying to rack up as many km's as possible right now so I can start planning some long winter trips down south. Covid pending that is, the second wave is really screwing things up.
I did on my KTM 790 went to 750 miles, the dealer did state that as long as the mileage was reasonable kinda sub 1,000 and I’d not had issues within that mileage but carried on riding the warranty wouldn’t be affected.
My Multistrada was around 800 miles IIRC, similarly my dealer didn't have an issue with it being less than 1,000 miles.
