So I have been quoted £175 for the first service on my MTS12 from Motorapido in Winchester, they have stated that it needs to be done at around 600 miles or 1000km, which after reading the manual myself is correct. I emailed Riders Bridgewater and the chap there quoted me £195, I asked if he would be willing to price match MR and he came back and said £174.99 I then asked what was done on the first service and this is the response I got back "Hi – On the 1000 mile service, all the oils & oil filter are replaced everything is checked, brakes, lights etc. it’s a full nut & bolt check. It is road tested Regards" So I asked if he was sure if it was 1000 miles or 1000km and he said it was 1000 miles, I'm pretty shocked that a main dealer doesn't even know the correct servicing intervals fou our bikes Although I have found MR to be arrogant and I kind of begrudge giving them my money, they look like to the only option while the bike is still in warranty, I'm in Dorset so my options are limited I suppose.
Jeez, I can never understand this one. Why can you buy a new car and not see the dealer again for 12 months? If the things need an oil change and you have just spent more for it than a lot of people do on cars, why don't they factor this into the OTR price. I get very frustrated with this, I know dealers have to make money but £175 a few weeks after leaving the showroom is taking the piss. If one manufacturer did this FOC I think they would all follow. £175 for an oil and filter change????? Why would it need a full nut and bolt check? they do a PDI for feck sake......
Price up oil and filter separately each, work out how long it would take YOU to do the job, how much/long to dispose of old oil and filter. Then factor in the time each mechanic has spent on Ducati service training, how much the boss has spent on that training to enable him to do the visual inspections PROPERLY, the wages he has to pay the mechanic, his rent, rates, insurance, the time he has to put (waste) into talking you about the intricacies of what he has done/is going to do your bike, and your whining, the time your bike has to take up space in his workshop queue/bench, removal of fairings, et al, the time taken getting it onto and down from said bench securing it properly, then add sundries (lubes, loctite, rubber gloves, clips, cable ties et al) add VAT @20%, total that lot up and give us an answer. Pre-delivery done, check, big v twin, loads of vibrations, fasteners will settle down, slacken off, need re-torquing sooner rather than later. If all that was left for the next service at 7000 miles you might not be around to witness it...........................
The service is 1000 km / 600 miles, you will know because an indicator will appear in the instrument panel stating you are due for 600 m service. Ducati Aylesbury (OYB) charged me £140 in Sept 2012 for my S Touring, breakdown was 1.4 hours labour @ £56/hour £78.40 oil filter £9 oil £24 consumable £5 vat £23 I rather naively, I suppose, went there thinking it was free! i.e. included in original purchase price. Compare to see what your paying more for.
Hahahaahaaaa!! What a load of bollocks!!!!! How can one dealer do it for £140 then but another wants to charge £195 for the exact same service?! I wasn't actually complaining about the price, I didn't buy an £11.5k Ducati and expect the servicing to be cheap, the point I was making is that if a dealer wants to charge me that kind of money for servicing my bike then he should at least know when it's due to be conducted!
I thought it was included FOC, you would think so after the cost of the bike, oh well what can you do?!
Newbie here and my bike has been ordered from Ducati Aylesbury, I asked how much for the 1st service and was quoted £140 so they seem quite fair. I dealt with On yer Triumph before they shut Aston Clinton and always found them very fair. As they were the same chain I have ended going back to them for my first Ducati. Cannot wait to get my new wheels !
When you buy a new bike always ask if they will do the first service for free as part of the sale.they can always say no-but often say yes as a goodwill gesture.A happy customer will always come back and make more money for the dealer.
Ape2Duc Getting back to your original post I think you'll just have to suck it up I'm afraid. There is only one Ducati dealer where I live (who are excellent thankfully) and I knew from the off that the first service wasn't free; came in at £165 but it didn't stop me buying the bike. Some things are the way they are and life's too short etc etc. By the way, the main dealer not knowing the correct information would worry me too........
Hi Mate - not sure if you are getting my pm's ?? re: you know what. The answer is yes - Think you have my number.
I'm fairly sure Triumph first service after 500 miles is free as long as you take it back to the selling dealer.
I'm not John, my inbox was full, I have now cleared it, can you re-send your last PM or your number mate please?
The 1.4 hours mentioned, is the standard time for the first service indicated by Ducati. I think that these are going to be published by Ducati soon for all the service work? The price differences come down to labour rates mainly, but also the cost of the oil in this case. My own labour is less than the example above, but my oil is more at about 40 quid. Labour rates vary quite a bit. Id guess about 45 is the lowest, but ive heard of 90 a hour being banded around. Cost of the oil filter should be the same wherever you go. I'd guess I'd run the job out at about 145 inc. The first service isn't included in the sale price. Again, as mentioned above, it's sometimes thrown in with the deal. Always worth asking I don't know about Triumph servicing, but there's very little that's free nowadays. There'll no doubt be a couple of hundred quid in the purchase price to cover it.
No doubt about that, its just what you assumed you were paying for in original price. I understand Honda have stopped the "free" first service now. Sign of the times.
Most dealers are happy for their charges to be viewed and nothing 'hidden' - MR have always been very fair and never arrogant in my opionion but I guess there will always be some a small percentage of customer dissatisfaction where ever you go - people have their favourites but MR are normally at or near the top of the Ducati dealer tree  Moto Rapido Ducati Service, routine servicing, Tuning. Racing, Parts
For me a few quid either way on the price of a service is no where near as important as finding a dealer who knows what they are doing and are are trustworthy. £170 - £190 for a first service on a high performance complicated machine like the Multistrada is not bad.
